98 Mark SC Build

285 ? Wimp ;)

Have Aric check with ford racing they sell the rear hubs and bearings for half the price of OEM parts (same exact part of course).

Also, there is a set of focus rs calipers available also in silver unless you're dead set on black brembos ... they can be purchased separately from the kit.

I know money is no issue for you, but throwing it out is plain stupid IMO.

lol Jeremi. I want the stance to be lowered with a little higher rake in the rear, with the tires inside the wheel wells. Aric has a roller for the wheel wells, and he said he can roll the quarters for me to make a wider tire fit inside the wheel well, but I am not too keen on that idea at the moment.

He has the Mark back at his shop until Monday when it goes to Joey for the IC tubing, and was going to measure the offset and get the wheels on order. I will talk to him again and see if a 315/35/18 has a chance inside the wheel well with the custom rims, without moving stuff around, and rolling the fenders.

Thanks for the tip with the hubs and bearings. I will let him know.

Black Brembos are not my first choice. Are the silver focus rs calipers the same as the Cobra R's, just a different color?

Max, I talked about the tire stagger and what it can do to the traction control with Ryan, and he said that somehow Aric can fix that with programming. Not sure if that is true, but I asked him to talk to Aric about it and see what he thinks.

Tire stagger is a VERY common issue with the OBD2 cars with traction control/abs. We did a full tune up on this guys Mustang, he than went and had new tires installed on the rear. About a week later he came back complaining that after we did the tune up(plugs/fuel/air filter/PCV valve) he car ran super sluggish and wouldn't even burn out anymore. After I double checked all my work I couldn't figure out wth happend. After talking with the guy to get some scenarios of how it drives, he said "I went to go get new tires on the back and I noticed that the new tires don't burn out as well." After I looked at the brand and stuff I checked the sizes....sure enough, just one size off. He got them because they were $10 cheaper than the other size. The fronts were a 50 series and the rears were a 45 series. We still weren't 100% sure this was causing the problem, so we sent it to Ford who used their scan tool and said as soon as you get on it more than 3/4 throttle the traction control was kicking on, regardless if you had the button on/off. It wasn't that big of a difference in tire size, but when you think about how fast the ABS rings are spinning its gotta be pretty different front to rear.

I'm pretty sure you can turn off that option in the programming, but I'm not sure if you can actually program ABS sensor signal timing or anything with the ABS systems. I'd be curious to find out what he does....I've always loved the 18's up front and 19's in the back look. :D

YOu have to roll the fenders anyway to avoid rubbing with 285 tires.

Go all the way, roll the fenders (make sure he heats up the paint beforehand), shorten the sway bar 2" in the middle and bend the ends at an angle, and 315 will fit.

Focus RS kit part no: M-2300-B. Same exact caliper as 2000 Cobra R caliper, just silver:

Just got off the phone with Aric. He is going to check into the silver Focus Brembos. He is also calling Joey to see what he can do to the sway bar to make some room for even wider rims too.

He said the main goal here was to get the widest rim possible in there - so far before the sway bar mods it is 10 1/2", then whatever tire that will fit the rim is next. His list I posted is just the starting point, to figure the cost involved in this project.

As far as the ABS and TC goes, Ford has a built in stagger allowance in the program - so they do not have to be exactly the same front/rear revs on a Mark. In my case, he is going to keep the front/rear revs as close as possible, so this will not be a issue. He has program control over tire size, so the speedo will be correct also.

Thanks for your input, Guys. I appreciate it. It helps me alot. :)

Cool....sounds like you guys know whats up! This thing is going to be sweet once its done! You plan on selling the Octo's?

Thanks, J. I have a total of 6 OctaStars - 4 have Bridgestone Potenzas, and 2 have M/T drag radials mounted. I have not really thought about selling them yet. I need to make up my mind and either buy another Mark to put them on to replace the Jeep I am giving to my daughter, or sell them.

Mike, your 98 has the Cobra Hight Output oil pump stock, no need to upgrade (in case you didn't read my other post).

Thanks, Serg. That is the first I ever heard of that pump being used on a stock Mark. Another good reason to own a Gen 2 :)

J, The Cobra R Brembo's - 397-M-2300-X, sell for $1000.00 on the Jegs web site. The kit includes Brembo four piston calipers, rotors, brake lines and hardware.

The Focus RS Brembo's - M-2300-B, sell for $735.00 on the Ford Racing web site. The kit includes two Brembo four piston front calipers and pads.

The cobra R/Focus RS require modification to fit, or do they bolt up to the stock M8 spindle like the 99 Cobra style?

They are direct bolt on, but require specific wheels to clear. 99 Cobra wheels won't clear.
You can get either setup cheaper from buyfordracing.com

Yeah need 18's or bigger. I actually just picked up a set of these calipers, but they were off a viper, so now I have to figure out how to get "VIPER" off the sides of them!

Not really, you can use these with all OEM FORD 17x9 wheels like 03 cobra, fr500 style, and few more. 8" wheels and some other aftermarket wheels due to spoke design do not clear the calipers.

Are the viper calipers offset and spaced the same as cobra ones ?

They are all made by Brembo, the casing and the mounting points were listed as the same, If not looks like Ill be making up some brackets to get them to fit. Ill need/want 18's anyway since Im using a 14" rotor.

As of this past Saturday, the Mark IC plumbing is almost done - if not already. I will say if all goes well, it might see the rollers in another week or two.

The plan is... Aric is going to polish all the pipe instead of powdercoat, so we save a week there. He still has to fab and mod the K&N air filter to fit through the hole where the stock filter use to be, and run the pipe to the supercharger. From what I understand, that same hole will be used for the compressed air coming from the IC going to the throttle body.

I suspect the air ride might get moved around, and who knows what else. I will know more in the next couple days. :)

I'm curious, is this a turnkey contract?

No contract - just your standard detailed invoice with parts and labor. Aric is terrific to work with. As far as turnkey goes - yes. Aric will put some miles on it and dial everything in while waiting for the brakes, rims and tires to arrive.

When I get it back, it will be race ready. Reminds me of a old school hot rod shop. Just tell him what you want, and he will get it done :)
