2 non-continuous tests "Incomplete"

I am trying to get emission testing done on my 96 Mark. I was first turned away because the OBD2 was "not ready". I have since bought a ELM 327 scan tool. Everything works fine except the "Catalyst" and "Secondary Air" stay in the "Incomplete" status. Anyone have any Ideas how to get these to complete?

Thanks

Here are a couple of graphs of the O2 sensors for a 2 minute run at Idle and 2000 RPM.

It's rather unusual that your system had not completed all of its monitors. They run almost constantly, as long as very specific criteria are met.

The PCM can only default to a "not ready" state for one of two reasons:

-All power to the PCM was lost, ie: vehicle battery was disconnected or went very dead, PCM was physically disconnected for service or replacement so all adaptive memory was lost,
OR
-Diagnostic work was done and "codes were cleared", meaning KAM (Keep Alive Memory) was erased. Any time diagnostic codes are retrieved and cleared, the PCM will hold code P1000. Many people assume this is a pass code. It is not! It is defined as "no malfunction-- monitor drive cycle not complete since last clear".

After all drive cycle monitors are complete, OBDII will actually generate the four letters, PASS.

What do you need to do?

Here's a really good explanation of how to force-complete an OBDII drive cycle:

Autotap has simply published the procedure word-for-word from the Ford manuals.

Follow it as thoroughly as you can. Ignore the references to PID data readings if you haven't got a datalogging scan tool; just in cycle steps 1-3, bring the engine up to correct operating temperature.

As you do this cycle, you'll see that most, if not all, monitors should get executed in a couple of days of normal driving.
