2008 Carlisle

I think I might be bringing a friend or two with mark viii's also. What is the typical hotel rate for that weekend? We are debating camping out or not....

Average for hotels close by is about $130.

Many of us stay at the Comfort Suites right in town. Anyone even contemplating staying there had better reserve NOW as it fills up very rapidly. You can always cancel a couple of days before.

I've camped there for the last three years. Never had a reservation either. I camp right outside of gate 6 (I think it's 6).

It's just a field run by the voulenteer firefighters.

It's only about 50 bucks for the weekend.

I'll be there again this year.:D

Yes, it did.:D

Actually, it wasn't that bad. It rained all night long once, but then it stopped in the morning.

The only problem I had was, my rain fly was leaking, but I put a garbage bag between it and the tent and it was fine then. I've since re-treated my tent with waterproofing spray and it's fine now.

So are there any showers or facilities available for people who camp out? It could be a long 4 days otherwise!!!

Facilities? This is camping.:D

This campground has a port a john.

The showers and facilities are available when you walk through the gate, in the fairgrounds.:)

Well I don't camp a whole lot but I sure would like a shower every few days! As long as something is available I'll probably go the camping method and save a few bucks.

A friend of mine that is bringing his SVT Contour had a lot of points built up towards hotel stays so we just booked the Hampton Inn at Harrisburg. It's about 12 miles away, google maps says about 22 minutes. It comes with free parking, free breakfast, and free internet so that works. Most of the hotels closer to the fairgrounds were booked up.

So do you guys usually wash your car at the grounds or at the hotel or something?

I'm looking forward to this I've wanted to go for about 5 years now.

**Also, you can plan on at least two of us for the dinner. Possibly three but I won't know for a month or so.

Right after you drive through the gate, there's an area with a bunch of hoses for washing your car.

I've had to use it every time.:D

You don't need to wash it as long as there is enough bling under the hood. Worked for me in the past ;) ;) LOL

The room we have reserved has enough space to add another table, if we need to. The more, the merrier!

Just out of curiosity, how far do some of y'all drive to go to Carlisle? I've only got a 200 mile drive up from Richmond, VA. Do those of you who have 500+ mile drives just have your car "shipped" and take a different means of transportation to cut down on fatigue and wear and tear, or what?

I'm going to be driving my 97, it's about a 400 mile drive for me. It's all highway so wear and tear is really not much of an issue. I was thinking of borrowing a trailer and entering my truck and car in the show but it would be too much of a hassle. Just make sure you car is is good working order before you go and I wouldn't worry!
