95 mark / cobra engine swap

Ok so I picked up a 1st gen car for a really good price, but it has a blown head gasket. So I shopped around and found a 97 cobra motor for a pretty good deal. I figured that I could use the intake on my 97 mark viii and use the 30k mile longblock in the 95. So this way I have a block (out of the 95) to start builing over the next year or so for our 97. The 95 is for sale and will have a Cobra longblock, and all the little tune up stuff, but if anyone is interested in the car but wants some performance parts then I ask you to contact me soon about it. As soon as the engine comes in the car is going back together and up for sale it goes. Here she is. And it took me 2.5 days to get the motor out...by myself...through the top ::wtf:: xo

Niice. I like the pearl whites and you got an ivory interior to boot. Good luck finding parts for interior. but yours looks very clean inside. Your steering wheel is even all one color still. lol I can't get replacement parts anywhere (dealer says all new old stock is discontinued) Must be sitting in some guys wharehouse that is hording it all for expensive single auction site auctions... I'll have to pull mine and repaint them with factory ivory paint.

Actually the steering wheel is faded on the top. And I need the trim piece that holds the buttons and lights for the trip computer. But I hope to find them soon. We'll see. I'm mainly concerned about the engine and tune up parts now. The details will come later. Thanks for the compliment.

RE: 95 mark / cobra engine swap

Well, there's alot of things that have to be done to pull the engine from the top. Yes I pulled the trans along with the motor but that didn't cause any problems. Additionally it's easier to pull the trans along with the motor since the 2 top bolts holding the bellhousing to the motor are nearly impossible. The intake has to come off, the oil pan has to come off, the driver's side manifold has to come off, and the oil pan, manifold, ac compressor, and a few other things have to be taken off with the motor lifted up and forward several inches. I was doing all of this by myself, with no power tools, and I have a bad back so after working from 8 am to 5 pm I have to stop to prevent me from hurting myself. Cause if I push myself too hard I'll be laid up for a week. So I have to take my time. If I had known all that I know now. I probablly could have had the motor out in 2 days. However it's not a project for the week or those who have limited mechanical abilities.

Please feel free to ask me as many questions as you can. I've posted this thread to help those who haven't tackled a project of this size before. I'll be happy to help you in any way that I can.
