98 Mark SC Build

Ryan and Aric received the newest addition to the Mark the other day. :) Reichard Racing Ultra Grip 3.1 Pulley. Should be good for 11-12 PSI. This won't go on the car until just before SSHS7. :)

Aric said there is going to be too much involved to make a boost controller happen by SSHS7, and said this 3.1 pulley change, and for some extra safety, a 100 octane race fuel tune should get it in the 400-420 rwhp range with no problem. That is the wall for this engine, and he is not thrilled to be doing this for a couple tenths at the track at the risk of the engine letting go.

So, after the weekend of fun, the pulley will probably come off and be put aside with the other stuff that is being gathered for the future. :)

Update: While traveling home to Georgia from the Michigan meet last month - 8/12/07, the Vortech supercharger let go about 38 miles from my home after about 11 hours of driving. Here is a couple pictures of that fatal day.

The Mark was taken directly to Aric's shop (Injected Engineering), and he was kind enough to come open his shop up on a Sunday to put the Mark inside his shop for repairs.

Aric shipped the compressor back to Vortech on 8/15, and he received the new compressor today. Vortech did not say what, or how it failed, and there was no charge for the new compressor. Hopefully, no metal shrapnel chunks from the blower explosion will find it's way past the intercooler into the engine. Aric said he can save the IC, and will make sure it is clean.

I talked to Ryan at the shop today, and they are planning the strategy now for the big car shootout aka SSHS7 on November 3. I am not sure of all the details, but the boost is going to be turned up a bit, using a 3.1 Reichard Racing pulley, and some other things like the speedo gear, and tune adjustments for the extra boost.

The Baer brake rotors finally arrived, and it will be at least a month for the Boze rims to be made and shipped. I am going to either borrow some drag radials mounted on Mustang rims from Aric, or get a new set of rims and DR's at Summit, since the ones I have now will not fit with the big brakes and Mustang hubs.

Hope it comes together soon Mike(and stays together). :)

Do you plan to run the Boze wheels full time? Track and street?

Thanks, JP :) Me too! That was my original thought - running the Boze rims with DR's at the track, as it would look real cool with the matching rims.

But, all the effort in having these rims made has me thinking that I do not want to mess these rims up by switching back and forth between the Proxies and the DR's. So, the hunt is on for a pair of rear Mustang rims and DR's that will fit the big brakes.

I stopped by Aric's shop today. The new blower with the 3.1 pulley is in the car now. If Aric has time, he should have it all buttoned up by tomorrow. :)

Aric is going to take the Mark to a car show this Sunday, to display it with some other builds he has done. My calendar is clear for Sunday, other than defunking the SL 320 roadster that I am going to pick up tonight, so I will try and stop by and get some pictures of the event :)

Excellent thread, nice pics, very useful information. I am planning on putting a SC on my 93 Mark VIII sometime in the future (financial issues), and this has givin me some great ideas. Thank you very much.

Good grief, must be nice to have your mechanic take your car to a car show. :D

Is the show included with the install? LOL

lol Jeremi, I thought real hard about buying your Mark. You almost got a phone call from me if I had walked away from this roadster deal.

My only problem would have been covered storage. I would hate to have yours or my Mark sitting outside. I just could not even deal with that.

So, even though this roadster is pure sex on 4 wheels, it will sit outside in the driveway, while the Mark is in the garage :)

I really miss the Mark bad - especially the boost, and the looks from other drivers when the blow off valve is venting.

I stopped by and talked to Aric for a couple minutes before he went to Atlanta Dragway to tune this sick Lightning that has a KB twin screw, nitrous, and about 6 tunes that he is going to dial-in at the track. This truck is insane. I think it has over 1000 ft pounds of torque on spray.

Anyway, He said I could stop by tomorrow and help out detailing the cars for the show on Sunday if I like. It is a charity show for the united way I think he said, so, I think it will be fun to hang out there and polish the cars.

lol JP :) Aric, Ryan, and I have a great relationship - like family, and these guys can have my keys any time they want the Mark, for any reason. :)

The Mark will be all finished up tomorrow, good to go, and ready for it's next road trip. :)

The Mark came home today :) The white 410 speedo gear is also installed, and it got rid of the 1-2 WOT shift issue. Aric said it hits the rev limiter once, shifts, and now stays in 2nd gear without trying to kick back down. It does this with the street tires, mostly spinning.

At the track with the DR's, the symptom was a dip in power after the 1-2 shift. This should be gone too. All that needs to be done now to the tune is to set the shift points.

Originally, I thought that Aric and JW came to this conclusion, but, I was mistaken. Credit needs to go to Aric and Steve Bradshaw - (Steve and is brother Mike built my transmission), on figuring this one out. Thanks Guys!

The 3.1 pulley is on, and that should be worth a couple psi of boost - around a extra 50 rwhp. That should put the Mark somewhere in the 400-430 rwhp range now. :) Car show tomorrow morning. I will post some pictures of the fun!

Cool, what about the Cobra intake Mike? If you guys put that on can you get before and after numbers the same day? That would be awesome.
