I hope it was all his fault

Joe, tell me you weren't drinking and driving!! Oh, tell me he had insurance AND it was his fault. Based on where you took the pictures and the fact that you're posting, I'm glad you're okay. :)

First of all, yes... I'm physically in great shape... none of the 8 airbags deployed... I was posting those pics from a bar, so to answer your questions J... no, not before the crash... :p

So, I'm driving from my place of work back to my house down generic secondary road, road conditions are moist...

Plow truck is trying to make a left across my lane... I see him edge out to the road, I let off the gas, he then pulls out (literally right in front of me) across my lane and stops, entirely blocking my lane (I assume he is looking in the opposite direction waiting for a break in traffic and must have never seen me (which I can't imagine how that works... as anyone who has ever seen DTSax at night knows... the HIDs and fog lights are plenty bright)).

I stomp the brakes and crank the wheel all the way to the right.

As he was leaving the gas station at a 45 degree angle to the road, if I had continued going straight, the edge of the plow would have probably hit dead center where the Cadillac wreath and crest is on the nose, and totaled the car for sure.

Where I forced the car to go right as hard as it would, I think I just clipped the very edge of the plow (as the front fender looks like someone took a can opener to it) and then proceeded to wreck his front wheel, drivers door and front half of the bed fender.

Anyway, where it's still dark, it's hard to really tell what the extent of the damage is but I fear there may be frame damage, the front of the nose looks like it is shifted to the pass side. It's drivable, but I'll know more tomorrow...

It was a young guy driving, and he knew he was totally at fault... he was driving a fleet landscaping vehicle. I spoke to the owner, who would like to pay out of pocket for the damage to my car.

I'm not sure how I feel about this, and he never asked what kinda car it was, so I don't think he's gonna be ready for what I imagine the estimate will be...

Anyone wanna take a guess what the Cadillac dealer will say tomorrow?

BTW, I'll give you a hint... just the headlight housing is $1100...

Lol, there you go. I find that a good reason to drink, lmao!

Looks like close to 7kish damage?

Don't do the out of pocket thing. Go thru your insurance. IT's the fastest and best way to get your car fixed. Let them go after the other driver.

I'm sorry to see this Joe, I'm glad to hear you are OK.

It could have been a lot worse, it could have been your Mark VIII!:D

well no one got hurt so that is a good thing, i hope you got a police report. are sure the HIDs were not covered in salt spray :p

Last time I played nice and agreed to settle outside the insurance route, it did not go well.

Sorry this happened but at least there is insurance. Really glady ou are OK. My Audi has been rear ended twice and the last time it happened it cost over $6000.

Was a ticket issued? Absolutly go through insurance unless he forks over a check imemdiatly on your esimate. You can always initiate the insurance claim and hold that over his head unless he pays you cash. The request to avoid invovling insurance is tyoically the starting point of scamming you.

I had a small fender bender with an insurance agent. We took each other's info, and can't remember who initiated, I think he didn't want to go through insurance, but I told him the estimate, said pay up. He said get a 2nd estimate, I filed with insurance. Figured I'd give him the one shot to pay up based on the place I was going to use.

If it's a company, who knows, they could be willing to pay out of pocket depending on how it would affect their insurance, etc., but they may not realize how much it will cost.

Joe, glad you came thru it OK. I would file thru your collision to get the car fixed where you want. The insurance company employs lots of lawyers to be sure they get their money. Let them be the banker for you.
