Caddysax vs Snow Plow

I'm sorry to see this Joe, I'm glad to hear you are OK.

It could have been a lot worse, it could have been your Mark VIII!:D

I thought about that too... I'm pretty sure I would have killed people if this had happened in the MK8...

well no one got hurt so that is a good thing, i hope you got a police report. are sure the HIDs were not covered in salt spray :p

Was a ticket issued? Absolutly go through insurance unless he forks over a check imemdiatly on your esimate. You can always initiate the insurance claim and hold that over his head unless he pays you cash. The request to avoid invovling insurance is tyoically the starting point of scamming you.

The police won't come unless people are dying in the street...

When you call they ask if everyone is all right, and if any of the vehicles are disabled and blocking the road. If the answer is yes and no, they tell you to exchange paperwork and hang up...

lets take bets on how much.....$5000.01

Oh come on Joe! That'll buff right out.

It'll take $5300 worth of buffing... :p

and that was the "we didn't open the hood, or look underneath the car" estimate... so it's clearly going to be even more...

So, I dropped the car off at the Cadillac repair center, and got my rental car (Mercury Grand Marquis  ). I will be going through my insurance, it's just simply not worth the hassle of going back and forth about money, and what if it's more then the estimate (which it will be) then I have to try and get the guy to pay the extra... blah, blah, blah... I have no time for that...

As it turns out, I assumed that we were both able to drive away, but I was wrong...

You faired pretty well considering you nailed the wheel. Had his tie rod end not broken off, I think you'd have more damage.

It's hard to tell from that picture, but most of the lug nuts are bent and the wheel itself is bent out like 10-15 degrees, so there must be a bunch of bent things behind there as well...

$7865

If it were the Mark VIII, it would be totaled!

I don't even want to talk about it... :p

I still have yet to find out if the insurance adjuster will say that the nose of the Caddy is too far out of whack and consider it totaled... I'm hoping it's just the bumper brackets and radiator supports that are bent and that the sub frame is ok.

Wow, in NJ the first thing the insurance company ask for is a police report.

Well then you'll love this... I went to the police station today, and they won't even give you the accident form... you have to do the entire thing on-line apparently...

Anyway, it differs from town to town...

Ouch, good luck Joe!

Thank you... :D

my Grand Marquis rental is starting to grow on me... :p I may not try to trade it for a Cadillac on Mon... maybe...

ooh. Sorry to hear about this Joe. I'm glad to hear that you "won." And also glad you're liking the Merc. Be glad you didn't get a Chrysler. :)

Maybe you could retrofit some of your extra Mark VIII headlights in there. The Saxillac will ride again!

Damn Joe! That sucks man. Glad to see you are ok. I was gonna suggest that the guy may have wanted to settle out of pocket because a lot of landscape employees are without the proper, ya know, license... Glad to see you are going through the insurance.

As far as the police response... We usually respond to make sure no one is injured. If the damage is under 1000.00 we are not required to fill out a MA police report. Either way, the involved parties are supposed to fill out a Comm of Mass Motor Vehicle Crash Operator Report and make 3 photo copies, 1 goes to the police dept where the crash occured, 1 goes to YOUR insurance company, and 1 copy goes to the registry in Boston. (address is on form) It is about 4 pages long with a diagram on the back. I would also keep one for yourself. Filling this out just covers your ass in case his insurance company wants to put up a fight and not pay the claim. Also, always call the police at the scene because you never know if the guy is properly licensed at that time or if he has any warrants.

My estimate guess is $4900.00. There will be a supplement of course when they take the hood off and realize the nose needs to be pulled over. When I worked at the body shop, we had to remove the motor/trans of a Caddi that was hit similar to that so the nose could be "Re-aligned" Never the same again unless the shop has state of the art equipment. :( Sorry to see this Joe

Call me, we will have beers and drown our sorrows

I was in Cotuit, and the Barnstable police simply don't care. Amanda once had someone in an SUV literally run over the nose of her Aurora, and I couldn't get the police to come, and that was in Hyannis where they have a dozen sector cars stationed at all times... not the 1 car that patrols Cotuit and Marstons Mills...

As it turns out, my insurance company doesn't care at all about police reports, that the police or I might choose to file...

I'll file one anyway, but I thought it was interesting...

If they have to pull the motor to fix the nose... I'm pretty sure that car will be considered totaled... I dunno why I suddenly thought about torching the roof off of it... :p

You're already cutting yourself short! I'm still going with my guestimate. :)

I think you'll probably be correct, but the adjuster hasn't seen the car yet, so I don't know which way this is gonna go yet...

Wow :eek::eek:
Glad your not hurt Joe !
I think I would go to the bar after that too !!
Thats a nice car to have screwed up.....:mad-tilt::mad-tilt:

You can does not have headlight washer.
Does it?

Any news on this yet? Has the adjuster looked at the car?

No headlight washers, but it had some little motor the flips something in the headlight to go from lowbeam to blind your ass daylight...

plus the bulb and ballast are are built into the housing... (still way overpriced IMO)

So, the car went into paint today... it wasn't really clear, and I didn't have a lot of time to sort out what will cost what, but it looked like they had to add a significant amount to the original estimate...

Not sure what the total will be yet...

Hope to have the car back by the end of the week :D
