Car dies after 3 seconds.

I just got done putting in new spark plugs, cleaning the MAF, and putting in the new fuel filter. Now it starts up but It doesn't run more than a couple seconds. I try to hit the gas and I hear a hiss but no rev's.

I tried taking the battery terminal off for 5 minutes with no luck. :(

Any advice?

I'm sure I put the fuel filter back on there the correct way. In any case it doesn't SEEM like it would be the fuel filter since it starts up every time.

RE: Car dies after 3 seconds.

Retrace your steps. MAF plugged in? Intake tube sealed? You can't have any air leaks past the MAF sensor. Check the fuel filter for proper direction. I don't think it can be put in backwards, but most have an arrow for fuel flow. In our case the arrow will be pointing up.

RE: Car dies after 3 seconds.

The intake tube has a small tube that runs to the left valve cover. When I pulled the intake tube off the valve cover in order to get to the spark plugs I split this tube on one end. At that split I tried sealing the tube with some wide electrical tape. I'm guessing I might need to use some duct tape untill I can get a replacement.

I'm sure about putting the fuel filter on correctly, even if I wasn't sure the fact that the car starts every time I crank it is an indication that the fuel filter is passing petrol.

Fixed it. The air intake tube was not seated where it begins it's descent near the firewall.

Don't feel bad, it's a common dilemma. Glad you found the problem.

Does it run better now with new plugs, fuel filter and clean MAF?

RE: Car dies after 3 seconds.

I pulled my back while doing something yesterday and can barely move. Maybe later on today I'll get a chance to get it out of the driveway.

... I did drive it around the block last night and it's gained all it's horsepower back and is definately running much better. I can't tell how much better untill I get it on the freeway, but the entire effort was worth it I'm sure.

I'll also be draining the tranny later this week and putting Mercon V in it. A shop installed the dipstick plug b/c it was leaking and put in the wrong stuff. Ohh well.

Driller. Do you by any chance have that link that shows you how to put the tranny cooler on? I have my tranny cooler sittin in the garage and still havent set it up. :+
