i was wondering what changed between the years of the mark VIII.

mostly for easy of modability or parts swapping from cobras. (saw the intake swap). what years had better heads if any? gearing? intakes?

i am a tech at an FLM dealership but this car was discontinued before i started so i didnt follow it.

we have a 97 pearl on our lot right now and i was considering it to replace my recently totalled stealth TT.

if i were to get 1 it would not remain stock for long..trust me. my TT was capable of 11s.

RE: changes between years?

welcome to the board.

The 4v heads changed to a tumble port design in '99, so you need a 96-98 Cobra intake. I put one on my car, i'd have to say it's worth it. Car lost a little bit of torque but definitely picked up hp. The '97-'98 lincolns have a crappy intake, but they have enough room for a cobra intake. The '93-96 marks have a better intake design, but less clearance under the hood. All mark viii's had the same heads, not sure if the cams were the same but i think so.

Also you'll want to replace the gears. It's a 28 spline 8.8". You need some kind of limited slip and 4.10's. If you plan on going faster than about 110 in the quarter i'd say go with 3.73's.

RE: changes between years?

thanks for the info. my goal is to trap about 115-120 if i do get the car/

RE: changes between years?

Boost it or juice it then.
Hit me up if you want.I have pretty much done it all with these cars.

RE: changes between years?

I have trapped 112 with a 125 shot, headers and some other small mods. SLap a 175 on that thing and a 116-118mph is easily obtainable.
