"Check Charger System" engine clicks, but doesnt turn over.

I went and got gas, get back in my car, and the engine just clicks and doesnt turn over.

I had a similar issue a while back. I was just sitting in the car with the engine off, then the console shot up error messages for "Traction System" and" CHarger System". The last time the mechanic said the engine was flooded somehow. He then said he did something that set the car back in default settings and it started right up. I think he said something about flooring the peddle and then trying. That is not working and i am fairly clueless what to do now.

Any ideas?

i'm hoping it something battery related...

i cleaned the connectors till they sparkled, and i checked all the main fuses. All it does is make clicking noises. No engine chugging at all.

I had less than 50 miles left on the tank. That was the same scenrio last time. Could there be a bubble in the fuel line or something?

I cant remember what the mechanic did last time, but he said the engine was flooded. It was something so simple that he didn't charge me for it.
Any idea how i would start if i the engine is flooded? I've tried starting with the pedal to the floor.

Thanks for the help.

If it won't crank. it won't flood.

You could have a failing starter solenoid.

***Update***

Went to town on the battery system. Damn thing was sparkling and had brand new battery. Mark fired up like nothing was ever wrong. Very wierd symptoms for a dead battery, since my lights and everything seemed to move at full speed.

Extra note, the manual reminds you to let the car idle for a minute or so after installing a new battery. The car relearns the idle settings this way. I think this actually did me some good, because a lot of lil memory glitches and idle problems seem to be gone now.

yeah it was working on 5 yrs.

i never had a battery go like this. Usually when it is dead, it is dead enough to prevent the lights from going etc... clicking noises just doesnt scream battery to me...

Lights, radio etc. do not anywhere near the amperage required to run the starter motor and turn over the engine ..... But I guess you already learned THAT lesson. Nice repair job...you did good. I hope you put in a fully charged NEW battery as if you do not, you can burn out the altenator.

My battery is doing the same thing, and it's the same one that was in the car when I bought it (6/2000).

It'll be a new Optima for me this year :D
