DVC Subs

RE: DVC Subs

Awww c'mon guys, gotta' be bashin' Rockford, huh?? It's cool, I know Rockford has their "introductory" line, which actually hasn't been that bad in my experience but their top end product is pretty good. I am using three 12" Rockford HE-2 subs (Rockford's mid-grade product) in a sealed enclosure in my car, and they perform great. I only have a Kicker ZR600 2ch (running at an average 1.34 ohms) amp pushing all three. The ZR600 is a good, powerful amp but those subs could take quite a bit more. I also use Rockford Fosgate Fanatic Q 6.75" component speakers (Rockford's high-end) front and rear, and I think they sound awesome. Those are powered by a Kicker XR460 4ch. As far as durability, I've only replaced two subs in the past year (one being a factory defect) and I push these subs pretty hard, for example: continued peak volume for hours on end during car shows. Also, they are exposed to direct sunlight whenever it is out, and they have shown NO signs of SQ/SPL or physical deterioration, although most new car speakers hold up well to UV rays anyway. ...Just my $.02. Have fun!!! :)

RE: DVC Subs

take the same cash u spent on the fosgates and see what u can get from adire, elemental designs, resonant engineering, etc, and then compare. fosgate is overpriced and pale in comparison to the above mentioned. that last reason is my opinion of course.

RE: DVC Subs

Sorry, but having to replace two subs in the last year doesn't sound like a quality driver to me.

I've used Rockford subs for years and had one Hafler amp, which is made by the same company. The subs I had were the Punch and Audiophile series, both were decent and lasted 3-4 years each. I did have one friend who blew a 15" punch rather quickly, but if you ever drove with him in his truck you'd know why. The amp was garbage.

I've had some friends who have used Rockford amps and their systems sounded great, but, I don't think they are still using the same amp 13 years later, like the amp in my Mark. It's a Concord amp, made by the same company that makes JBL (Harman International). Needless to say, I'd consider a JBL amp if I were in the market and the price was right.

RE: DVC Subs

The HE-2 subs (about $185 retail) aren't as expensive as some of the other subs listed here. Working for a Fosgate retailer, I only paid about half of that anyway. I really haven't had any experience with the Brahma, Infinity or some of the other products that a lot of you refer to and I don't doubt their ability to perform.

Also out of the the subs that I have cooked, one was a factory defect that failed the day after installation and with the other one, one of the voice coils blew about 7 months after. Realistically, the other two subs have been performing trouble-free since the day, and day after installation. Please remember that the chances of one of my subs blowing is 3 times as much as someone with one sub (kind of obvious). Note that these subs endure SPL competition and on average about 12 straight hours of 3/4 to full volume, extended play during car shows.

I am just sticking up for product that has been good to me (in my opinion). :7

RE: DVC Subs

the only thing that i meant to point out from the beginning is that fosgate used to be a great company but has seriously been going downhill the past few years. they have always been pricey but now their quality is sagging while the price is rising.

RE: DVC Subs

Paul, that's cool. I know what you are talking about with Fosgate's steady decline in thier introductory and medium quality products. The new HE-2's are an example (I have the last series before these), with less power handling and the material used for the cone seems cheaper as well. Because of that, I think I will be going with a different set of DVC drivers when one of my current ones fail. I have heard the new HE-2 subs, though and they don't sound too bad. I would like to try either the HX-2's or go with a different company altogether. Any suggestions on a trio of dual 4ohm or single 8ohm subs that require around 300-600 watts each?? These will be mounted in a sealed enclosure with about a 1.5 cubic ft chamber per sub.
