Engine clatter

When I accelerate from a stop at lights or if I get on it a little when I'm going slow, I hear engine clatter like I'm using a low grade gas. I've always used premium (Shell, most of the time) so I don't understand why it would be sounding like this. Any ideas?

RE: Engine clatter

I have used regular gas for years with no noises from the engine, with diminished performance maybe but it was not noticeable. This could be a knock sensor problem.

RE: Engine clatter

I've never had any luck with Shell gas here in Texas.

Anytime I ever resorted to using shell gas I always regretted it.

Try a couple of tankfuls of Exxon Super or Chevron Super and let us know if it fixes the problem.

if you already have a full tank of shell gas, then run by autozone and grab a bottle of octane booster. If that makes your car run better then you'll know that "shell station" is having a problem with their gas vendor "Cross dumping".

Cross dumping is a common occurrance, but they are only supposed to cross dump "higher grade" fuels into lower grade fuels

RE: Engine clatter

Thanks Tommy!
I'll run this tank down under 1/4 and fill it up with either of those 2 and let you know how it goes. I'm also going to bite the bullet and get it tuned.

Thanks for all the suggestions!
