Exaust is going to have some work done...

I don't want to dissuade anyone from gutting their cats for any reason. After all where do you think violin strings come from. :D Anyway, I've gutted my cats in the past and one of the cats now has a hole in it. The exhaust shop says that they cannot fix the cat and the cat has to be replaced. I'd like some info on cats THAT ARE KNOWN to go onto mark viii's without much problem. (i've bought some in the past that wouldn't go on) He also says that if I bring him in the cat he will charge me somewhere in the neighberhood of 200$ just for the welding.

So, basically I need one cat put on and am looking at a 300$ budget for the entire process. What's everyone's opinion on this?

If I could find a shop that would just fix the hole then I'd be good. The hole isn't even visible. It's audible but to detect it the mechanics had to put a hose from the cat to their ear to even find the hole.

Perhaps a wad of chewing gum?:p

Seriously, would something like JBweld handle the heat? Anyone know something similar, if it won't?

JB Weld won't work, it turns back to putty at 300F. If the hole is that small, there is a muffler hole plugger kit available that should work. If it's actually a crack then it won't. The kit includes some small thin metal plates, and some muffler cement type stuff. I bought one from Pep Boys for like $5. I used to muffler cement stuff to seal the stripped EGR tube fitting into the driver's side catalytic converter. Worked for me, your mileage may vary. Worth a try anyway, and save that $300 for gofast parts.
