Exploding Oil Filter?

You must be thinking of someone else ;)

This was more of a rhetorical question that anything.

The sensor is pre filter as well. I just don't see how it the light stays on if apparently the pump puts out enough pressure.

Did you cut up the first filter you took of once the problem started ?

Honestly, I haven't heard of a pump failure in a stock application yet.

To increase the oil pressure you typically increase the spring pressure on the oil pressure relief valve (makes the valve stay shut more). So this situation must involve something blocking the pressure relief valve or a broken spring that in some way is not letting the bypass valve to open. All very strange. I'm with Mad Gen, look at filter for some more clues.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you guys, but after removing the plug, the spring and than trying to remove the valve, the oil pressure now builds up past 100psi once it finally pumps up. So....I'm assuming the valve is lodged and does not regulate at all, causing it to take a while for pressure to build, than once it builds up, it doesn't regulate it back down to safe pressures. I'm assuming that trying to remove the valve, caused it to change positions and instead of the steady 80psi I had before, its now upwards of 100psi.

So.....the next question. Since the price of an oil pump is so expensive and the intensive repairs it will take to replace it, am I right in thinking I should just replace the 170k mile engine instead? And if so....I found a 97 engine with 56k miles on it for $1k shipped.....hows that sound?

The question is really are you gonna keep the car? If so then why not just go ahead and rebuild what you already have, and take some of that money you'd spend on someone else's used engine and step it up a notch (Forged Bottom, or adleast pistons and rods). Just a thought

That's very true, Modular Mustang Racing is having very good deals on their 4v shortblocks and long blocks right now, they are located in SoCal.

Here is one....

This is who I called and got a "shop discount", hahah. They have a 97 with 56k miles for a grand, lmao.

I'm not spending anything really on shipping.....they are about 20 miles from the shop so we'd only have to pay 20 bucks for the delivery service.

I'm gonna call them up because if I can get one for 750 I may be able to afford it now.

But....no one answered if the 97 will swap over.....obviously I'd just be swaping the long block and the Red gen I covers that I just installed on mine, so as long as all the sensors bolt up I should be good right?

Also.....I have a buyer whos VERY interested and sounds willing to help out!

So J you are still planning on selling the car? The gen 2 valve covers have the provisions for the COP's, I don't think the gen 1 covers will work.

Jesse, YES it will swap over. But you may need to swap intakes from gen 2 to gen 1. You also need to put the wires back on... instead of going COP.

CHECK WITH CRAIG! He put a 97 in his old 95.

Glad I could help out :D

Why would that be?

From what I undersatand, They can only draw in what they put out and they can only put out what they draw in.

The most suction anything can muster at sea level is approximately 14.7 psi. There is no negative pressure, zero is zero. When you create vacuum, you're using atmospheric pressure to push something, and you only get 14.7 psi.

On the output side, you can go way higher, thousands of psi if you want. So in general, all pumps can push more than they can suck.

volume wise, you're right, they can only put out what they pull in and pull in what they put out. but you don't measure oil flow by volume, you just measure oil pressure.

Yep, I want to sell the car....its a bit too "fixed up" for my current profession. Once I get the Cobra I'll make is a bit less obvious from the outside. :)

I know the Gen 2 covers won't fit....like I said above, I'll be installing the Powdercoated Red Intake and Rocker Covers I bought off Jamie that are currently on my 95 engine.

I was pretty sure it would swap over, but I just wanted to double check. The reason I laughed at the Craig comment was.....he dissappeared a long time ago, I'll let him resurface on his own. Plus I can handle the swap on my own. :D
