Finally got my Mark VII

RE: Finally got my Mark VII

see, after looking at that car right there you can't really blame Daimler for completley ripping off the mark 7 for their 300C design. so maybe we should call it the Hyundai 300C? or the Kia 300C?

RE: Finally got my Mark VII

Get to the airport at 5:45 AM this morning for a 6:30 AM flight out to the home of Heinze Ketchup and the Steelers ... Oh ...and Iron City Beer! An hour later, we're in P'burgh ... dude that has sold me the car picks me up at the airport, we stop at Starbucks for a cup of coffee and talk about the '85 Mark VII Bill Blass.... He takes me to his home .. I meet his wife, kids and two dogs ... and then I see it ...there in the driveway is this shimmering Silver Sand Metallic Mark VII ... UH_OH.... it's saggin' in the front and the back ...

I call OldSchool, the resident guru and after I found out the car sat in a garage for 5-6 years (only 79K n the clock) we go through a series of start 'em up, turn 'em off, yadda yadda yadda routine and that puppy rose like there was no tomorrow ... Jack's a happy camper!!!

So I peel of the $$$$$$ to the guy, we go overfor tagssssssss and rgistrtion/title change , put 57.00 worth of 87 in the car and I'm off for the 5 hour 333 mile trek back to Philly. Mind you, this was all done by 10:00 AM

So along the way I call OldSchool asking him this that and the other while I'm gettin' a feel for the old gal .... 3:30 PM ...

I'm 25 FRIGGIN' MILES FROM HOME.... BAM ... the car died on the PA Turnpike!!!!! I get over (barely) to the side of the road and all I can see under the car is a spot where at least a 1/2 gallon of gas puddled up under the car....

JOHN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I call him and asks me where the leak seems to be coming from... so I tell him behind the passenger door... Now, mind you... I don't know diddly squat about the Mark VII's yet so I go into panic mode .... John shows up at about 6:15 - 6:30 with, floor jack tools, hoses and filter in hand ...

10 minutes later ... (it took longer than that to move the car further off the road, set the jack and chock the wheels) It's all fixed.

The dude that sold me the car, when he put the clip and hose back onto the new filter, he clipped it BEFORE the lock ring instead of after ..... <sigh>

So, even after all that, John followed me home to make sure the car was good to go ... we exchanged handshakes and thank yous and yer welcomes and he went home. (not after I started asking him 60 more questions about the car)

All is well! Tomorrow it get's state inspected and WASHED!!!!

By the way..I set the trip minder, etc before I left the gas station... Pitsburgh to Philly...333 miles ... 26.4 MPG I'm goin' to bed!

Jack
