Gappin it?

RE: Gappin it?

I would look at replacing them with Autolite 103's, gap them at .053". They aren't to terriby expensive either. Or if you prefer to use Motorcraft (Same as Autolites), get the ASFW22C. They are a step colder than stock, and the copper plugs seem to hold up a little better.

RE: Gappin it?

I already bought some motorcraft. Do I gap those at .53? Is that standard. I think these bosche got burnt out b/c I gapped them so I'm curious if .53 is standard for all spark plugs.

Also, DON"T BUY THESE BOSCHE PLUGS if you don't want bad gas milage. Since the day I put these bosche plugs in I've gotten horrible gas milage. Dunno why but, I have. :(

RE: Gappin it?

You might also do yourself a favor and liberally coat the threads of the plug with an anti-sieze to facilitateremoval later with out stripping the threads in your heads.

RE: Gappin it?

Autolite 764(copper) gapped at 0.048" IMHO.

Torque at 7 lb-ft with never sieze compound on threads. Connect spark plug wire boots with di-electric grease in the boots and the surface sealing area where they go through the cam covers.

Ok, I used the anti-sieze but not the other junk. Can I just use berring grease?

NO! ::nono::

Dielectric grease only. A couple of bucks for a tiny tube(it don't take much) at any parts store.

As far as cleaning the MAF...

You can get a spray type electronics cleaner at Radio Shack or others. It does not require 'touching' the wires, and leaves no residue. Some have used q-tips and alcohol, brake cleaner, etc. but beware the MAF sensor is very, very fragile. Try this site for guidance:

RE: Gappin it?

Autolite 764's are the stock plug, and if you use them, gap them at .048". If you step to the Autolite 103's, use a .053" gap. That is what was recomended to me by some guy's from my local car club. I have noticed a slight increase in gas mileage. Also, the stock plugs, from what I have been told, are one heat range to warm.
