Ran across this company that has industrial chrome applications and inquired about repairing our headlight assemblies with one of their products. They have chrome paints, chrome lexan sheets, etc..Neat site. Anyway here is the response I got.
"Thank you for your inquiry, we apologize for the delay in responding.
There are two products which we currently have which may work for your
application. First is ChromeFX which is a paint process consisting of
basecoat, clearcoat and a series of chemicals which create the chrome look.
This requires special equipment to apply see
http://www.alsacorp.com/Fanta-Pricing-Equipment.html for more information.
The second alternative is a new product - Mirra Chrome, which is applicable
with traditional paint gun and no other special equipment is necessary.
You can check this out at this link http://www.alsacorp.com/mirrachrome.html
.
For further questions, comments or to place an order feel free to contact
us.

The second option sounds like a winner, no special equipment, just standard paint gun. Would need to buy paint only, disassemble units with the hot oven trick, take to your local paint shop for shiny new reflectors. Even if this paint burned off too, just repaint again years later. What do guys think? Note: this could probaly be applied to other chrome like the grill.

P.S. I just installed 96 HIDs on my '94 last week, so I'm no longer blind. Just got this response and am passing along to other Gen 1's in need.
