Really digging the mechanical technical stuff of my recently accquired 1998 LSC mark VIII. I traded it for my old work truck, was an 89 F-250 460 which I studied pretty meticulously and put a lot of work into, but decided I needed something hat was better as a driver but still a fun ride. Seemed like a no brainer. The cars condition was a little sketchy.. Was likely stolen by somebody at some point in its life, but since then all the papers are legit so I am left to clean up the mess that was made. Got all my cylinders firing now, fuel filter and air filter chaged out and pseudo-gasketed at the foam on cold air intake with some automotive eurethaine, the air intake at the throttle body looks very clean but did a few spurts with some carb cleaner just for good measure. I also gently cleaned the maf sensor resonator things with some windex/soft toothbrush and reset the cars CEL with an OBD2 scanner. So far engine wise everything is looking good, no light yet.

My steering column needs to be mounted, both the seat and steering wheel are not able to move backwards or forwards although I can hear the motor trying. The wheel itself isn't mounted on the rail I imagine but haven't opened to look yet, was probably a byproduct of when it was stolen. The car is also veering to the right, which Im pretty confidentis due to more than just improper allignment. I would like to take my car from its condition now and get it to be able to pass an inspection if it needs it, and have the capability to haul serious ass without causing the car to be a gas-pig. It's difficult to find information on this car so I am hoping to finda strong community of Mark viii owners that can give me some pointers as I go. thanks.

Welcome! :)

For starters, click on the "Lincoln Tech" at the top of the page which will lead you through FAQ's, Technical Info and common Repairs and Modifications.

Specific questions can best be posted in the Mark VIII series sub-forums, such as General Tech, Drivetrain, Electrical, etc...

Welcome!

It definitely sounds like you have your work cut out for you, but you clearly aren't afraid to dig in to a project.

You are correct about the steering column in that there are a set of tracks in there that it has likely popped off of. Opening up the shroud and looking around inside should help you get things back where they need to be.

Here are a couple threads on the seats to get you started.
