I still havent put that brahma in my car. http://users3.ev1.net/~acashiola/ot/rant2.gif. Why? I havent had the money for the RAAmat. I decided to buy another computer and so I'm just starting to build up enouph money for the RAAAmat. http://users3.ev1.net/~acashiola/ot/dance.gif So, I'm finally ordering my RAAmat on monday and will be able to put my sub in by next week. I have still yet to make the box but dan from brahma has emailed me and given me dimensions for the box. Jeebus this has been a pain but the sad part is most of the actual work is ahead of me!!!! I'm hopin for good weather to help my spirits. :D

I've also decided I need to buy some mid-bass speakers for the back and I'm not sure what to get. I want SQL but I don't want to spend a ton of money. Anyone have any suggestions?

RE: Its really starting to get on my nerves now.

i wouldnt put the midbass in the back. put them in the doors and make some kickpanels for your other speakers.

RE: Its really starting to get on my nerves now.

definatly don't put the midbass in the back, you'd never hear it over the sub! :)

For 6.5 inch midbasses, I love the ID Chameleons, and the rainbow pro's. DD also makes a great 6.5 inch woofer, and the Adire audio Koda's are great for putting in doors due to their superior off axis response.

My self I'm tempted to trade up to 8 inch midbasses, in which case I think I'll use the Kicker RMB8's. Very thin design, habdle 175 watts RMS, and sound great. But that might have to wait till I can tri-amp, since I don't have the power to feed them yet...:-(

BTW, you don't really HAVE to have the rammat before the sub, I didn't at least. A majority of the rattles in my car come from the bumper anyways, I need to get some more raamat and get in behind there...

RE: Its really starting to get on my nerves now.

I'm not even going to think about taking my foot room away. I think it would take away from the luxury too much. I'm not a big guy or anything but don't yall kick the hell out of those kickpanels waaaaay too much. And the only Kickpanels I've seen here looked like ass.

I'm iffy about this, but in any case it will be in the future.

As far as not RAAAmatting the car. I know I can just not put Raamat in but if I did I would have to pull everything back out of the car when I finally do put RAAmat in and then go and put everything back in the car. LOT OF WORK

Sigh.

RE: Its really starting to get on my nerves now.

I have kickpods I made last year. They look like crap cause I wasn't trying real hard. At the time I had just spent a crapload of money on the rainbows, and I had no way of getting 3 way speakers to fit without kicks. I didn't want to take too long in building them cause the wifey was already a bit miffed that I spent the money in the first place, even more so if she found out I couldn't use them for a while.

The cheap ones I made don't really take a lot of foot room since they are small speakers anyways (1 inch tweet and 4 inch midrange the 6.5 inch midbass is in the door). When I remake them I'm going to make a mold of the stock kickpanel, mount the speakers and slide it back in so it looks stock.

Kickpods are great for getting the proper soundstage and really making your music come alive. I have a quick tutorial on my website (check sig) it's not the greatest, but if you were willing to do them I could help you out with them.

RE: Its really starting to get on my nerves now.

i use dynaudio 340s. i dont have kickpods. i managed to stuff the tweet and the 3" into the stock tweeter location in the doors and the 7" midbass where the 5x7's used to be so my doors are loaded. i think it sounds pretty damn good, even though theyre under powered, but i havent heard a properly tuned system so i dont have anything to compare it to.

dj, do yourself a favor and pick up a ppi 4125. its 125x4 @ 4 ohms and it'll handle those rainbows nicely.

yea, I've checked out your page and I'm going to use the 1-2 upgrade directions this week. http://users3.ev1.net/~acashiola/ot/biggthumpup.gif

I guess I'll put in the sub first and see how it sounds.

The problem right now is that my right side speaker is popping when I turn it up too loud. I think the shop put too much power to that speaker. I gotta go get it checked out.

One thing I am going to need help with is wiring up the sub. I have absolutely no freaking idea how to do it.

Should I take it to a shop and have them wire it up (and pay them 50 bucks) or should I do it myself. I'd like to do it myself if I could because of the money and also the fact of learning as much as I can about my own system. I can already see the first problem. How in the world do you pull the HU out? http://users3.ev1.net/~acashiola/ot/dunno.gif. I have no idea.

BTW like Paul, I have never heard a properly tuned mark either. :(

RE: Its really starting to get on my nerves now.

Have fun with the 1-2. Leaving the springs out was the best thing I ever did, it shifts so hard now, it's a blast.

So what does your system consist of now speaker and amp wise?

Wiring a sub is quite easy, no sense in paying $50 for what takes 5 minutes. All you have to do is match the optimum impedence (ohms) of the amp with the sub. I'm pretty sure your brahma is a DVC sub, do you know if each coil is 2 ohms or 4 ohms? And is your sub amp 1 ohm stable?

Paul, thee PPI won't work for me since I have 6 speakers to power, and it's only a 4 channel. When I finally get to woman's ok to spend money on the amps, I'm doing it right and saving up for the big daddy's, either tru or zapco. No sense in buying a temporary amp only to sell it off at a loss later. I just wish either company made a mega powerful 6 channel amp (i heard a rumor tru is working on one, God I hope so...)

RE: Its really starting to get on my nerves now.

youd be crazy to power all 6 speakers. the tweets are gonna be so harsh and its just pointless to power them with more than 50 watts. why not just combine the power to your mid and tweet? also, what crossover are u gonna be using should u end up powering all 6 speakers? it just seems like a waste to me using 4 or 5 amps that 2 or 3 at the most could take care of.

RE: Its really starting to get on my nerves now.

Oh ye of little faith :) Trust me it won't sound harsh at all esp with the buttery smooth rainbows. I'll be making sure everything is set right, I'd hate to blow them, as expensive as they are. Many of the folks in IASCA that I talk to triamp as well. I plan on using the XO's in the Pioneer P9, but that is a ways off. OF course I do start a new job today that pays twice what my last job did...maybe my stereo will be completed sooner than expected...hmmmm :) Nah, the wife would kill me :-(

RE: Its really starting to get on my nerves now.

ah, the p9. thats gonna be a serious system when your finished. u need to ditch the solobarics though. why have a top notch system only to open the trunk and have 2nd rate subs?

RE: Its really starting to get on my nerves now.

Tell that to gary Biggs who uses them to win comp after comp. heck he even used two solo X's to win a comp this year. In the right box they can be made to sound great. But I'm not going for pure SQ. I need some bump, and Tracy and the kicker gang haven't done me wrong yet.

Besides, at $170 each they are half the price of a IDMAX or XXX, I need to save money where I can LOL!

Ok, the system as it sits right now is as follows.

HU-- Pioneer 9300
Front Speakers -- Focal 165v Polyglass Components
Amp for front -- fockford amp I forget 600watts
Sub-- Brahma 12
amp for sub --1000d crossfire

Sub Specs
- "It features dual 2 Ohm voice coils (1/2/4 ohm wiring options), 1600W RMS power handling (4800W peak)"

Amp specs
- BMF 1000D is 1,000 watts at 1 ohm
--- " The amps each have an active low-pass filter that's continually adjustable between 50 and 250 Hz, and a variable infrasonic filter that's adjustable from 20 to 50 Hz"

No idea what this means but it sounds very http://users3.ev1.net/~acashiola/ot/cool.gif
--- "Other features include polarity inversion, master/slave switches that allow two BMF amps to be bridged together and used on a single load, an RCA output with a filter variable from 50 to 250 Hz in high-pass or low-pass, and a CFR-D remote subwoofer control that allows you to adjust the volume of the bass from the front "

The day is approaching. I'm building the box tomarrow and mights have time to start installing. Hopefully yall will be around to ask questions. I know I'll be like http://users3.ev1.net/~acashiola/ot/thinking.gif most of the time while doing this install.

Perfect, that means you can wire the sub in parallel to get a one ohm load, which is the same load as your amps maximum output.

I'd set the Low pass filter anywhere between 75 and 100 Hz, depending on what sounds best to you. The infrasonic filter is only needed if you build a ported box (are you?)

Polarity inversion means you can switch the polarity of the sub with just the amp instead of moving wires. That is sometimes helpful for imaging, reversing polarity can sometimes give you a more upfront bass sound. The master slave switch allows you to connect 2 amps together for 2000 watts. The RCA output allows you to conect more amps (with 3 outputs on your head unit that shouldn't matter). And of course you have a gain control so you can turn the bass up and down from upfront.

RE: Its really starting to get on my nerves now.

Ok, guys. Box is built. Sub is ready to be put in. I need some help doing it though. I'll post pics and ask questions tomarrow. Hopefully yall will be around but if not I'll take it up to the shop and have them take a look and ask questions etc. etc.

Box demensions are 22 inch. by 14 inches. :)

RE: Its really starting to get on my nerves now.

I was wondering about you and you're progress, glad to see you're ready for the big step. I'll be around if you need help, what kin of help are you needing? I'm a bit far away to help you lift it...:)

RE: Its really starting to get on my nerves now.

Ok, First I need to know what gage wire to use.

Next I need to know if I need to run the power cable for the new amp all the way from the front.

Then. Well you'll see how clueless I am from here on out.

Here's the pic's of what I'm dealing with.

This is the Rockford amp in the trunk powering the focal's.

http://users3.ev1.net/~acashiola/caraudio/p5280065.jpg

This is the amp which will power the sub.

Here's the plugs on the side of the sub.
http://users3.ev1.net/~acashiola/caraudio/p5280063.jpg

Should I take that black thing which the amp is already on out? If I did I would have room to put the box all the way back. I'm thinking I should do that.

As you probobly have quessed I have no idea what-so-ever what I'm doing. I'm relying on everyone here to help me out. I can do the manual labor but I need to be told what to do.

First I've been told to get 10 gage wire for the sub-to-amp wiring. I gotta run to go pick that up. I don't know how much I need but I'm sure the guys at the shop could tell me. Gunna run.

RE: Its really starting to get on my nerves now.

I just got back from the audio shop and bought a new install kit with 17 feet of 8 gage wire and other wires used in a new install.

I found out that I do need to run a new power cable from the battery back for the sub's amp so I have the parts for that. I don't know how to pull the HU though. I'll need to do that so I can hook up the sub.
I think I'm in over my head on this though. The shop said they would install the sub for 45 bucks which is becoming more and more attractive to me.

Anyway, I'm going to take pics of the box so ya'll can critique it. Remember it's my first box. http://users3.ev1.net/~acashiola/ot/squint.gif

RE: Its really starting to get on my nerves now.

You are only using 8 guage?

If you are actually going to run that, I would put it to the apm that is powering the focals and switch the 4 guage over to the amp for the sub. That amp needs and deserves the power more
