kind of a dumb question.

hey guys, i was reading up on the cobra intake swap on my 97 mark. i was reading the chiltons manual for a 96-98 cobra. my question is this, when people use the cobra fuel rails that just means they swap the assembly thats on top of the intake correct? where the fuel pressure regulator and all that stuff is? just want to make sure thats all i need to swap em when i do the intake swap.

RE: kind of a dumb question.

You can reuse the mark fuel rails, but you won't be able to put the EGR back on, and you won't have access to the port to test the fuel pressure. If you want to use the Cobra fuel rails (you should) you'll have to modify the fuel lines that go to the rails (youll have to cut some length out of the steel part and put them back together with some hose or preferably with compression fittings). Make sure you don't mix up the feed and return lines when you modify the lines. That's all there is to it, really.

The fuel rail is just the part that sits on top of the injectors, has the fuel pressure regulator on it (and some other vacuum device that i couldn't identify).

RE: kind of a dumb question.

how can i tell the difference between the fuel and return lines? ones on the left ones on the right? im kinda worried about this swap. ive read up on it but am really a novice. i dont really have anywhere to take it either so im in trouble. i got a great deal, 300 for the intake upper and lower, the valve covers( they are silver, i like em) and the fuel rails on top of the manifold. what else do i need? i know i need the pipe from a 96-98 cobra. (plan on a c&l trueflow pipe, its really nice and it has a spot premade for a nitrous tap which will come in handy) thanks for all the help dave.

RE: kind of a dumb question.

I believe the supply line has a bigger connector at the fuel rail (14.7mm) and return is smaller (11mm) - coming out of the regulator.

C&L tube gets so hot you can bake eggs on it after half hour.
The only cool thing is the provision for the nozzle.

Let me know if you want a stock cobra tube + airbox - I've got one extra here.

RE: kind of a dumb question.

hey jeremi,
why does the c&l one get so hot? wouldnt that affect performance? heat the air up going in to the engine? i really like how it looks and have never seen someone use this before along with the intake swap.

RE: kind of a dumb question.

That's my point. it gets hot thus reducing performance. I don't like any C&L stuff really. Neither do Mustang guys. Same goes for the MAC intake tubes. Get yourself the stock inlet tube, mate it with a plastic cold air intake (into the fenderwell or over the compressor. There is a reason most anufacturers use plastic intake tubes on all the cars.
