Mark Randomly Overheats

::roll:: Alright, my Mark has ALMOST overheated a few times over the past couple of months. The car will be fine for 5 weeks and then suddenly, and without warning, the temperature needle starts to fly up. It usually happens within a 2 mile radius of taking the car out.

What's happening is I'm losing all of my coolant out of the top of my reseviour. ::wtf:: This last time I watched as the coolant bubbled out of the top of the reseviour continually until the car cooled down.
The cap was VERY tight.

Both times I was able to add some coolant and the car would be fine. Currently I am not driving it until I figure out this problem.

Has anyone else had this problem?

A couple of people I've talked to from the club have mentioned that it might be the cap...something about a spring in the reseviour cap might be shot so it loses pressure.....maybe the water pump...but no one seems to be sure..

Anyone know? Thanks... ME ... :+

RE: Mark Randomly Overheats

Sounds like your t-stat is sticking. Replace that lately? Hope it's something simple like that. Are you running underdrives? I had all 3 underdrives on for a while and the temp would go up too high if it was at idle for a while ::nono:: , so I'm just running the crank pully now and it's temp is back to normal. :7

RE: Mark Randomly Overheats

Replace the thermostat. they tend to intermittently fail in these cars. Mine did in my 95 Mark and shortly after the thermo failed in my son's 95 V6 Mustang. Also, be sure you are filling the system at the crossover and not the overflow bottle.

RE: Mark Randomly Overheats

Ditto on the T-stat. My '93 done the same a couple times back when it was a daily driver. I had the cooling system flushed, T-stat replaced and hoses replaced. No problems since.

Thanks so much everyone...!!! This saves me a bunch.

Hey where's the best place to snag one of those upgraded T-Stats? What is it the 180? What is the best kind?

Thanks!!:D

RE: Mark Randomly Overheats

I bought my replacement from the Lincoln dealer because nobody else had one when I replaced it. The replacement from the dealer was a 188. My gauge used to run mid scale on the M. Now, it stays on A or L which is about 1/4 scale.
