Mark VIII's in Magazine again......

DOHC MARK VIII

Registered
Congratulations to Matt T. (screen name: Squirrel) and Walt K (screen name: Walt). They made the January 2004 issue of Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords in an article called “Cruise Missiles”, the latest Luxobarge invitational. Matt ran of best for the magazine of 13.80 at 101.49 mph and Walt (second time in the event) ran a best of 14.18 at 96.90 mph. Very nice times for what was probably a warm summer day.

Again congratulations to both of you for having the guts and intestinal fortitude to show the Mark VIII performance flag to a doubting public (LOL). Got my issue today today in the mail, hopefully the rest of you will be getting your issue soon to enjoy the rest of the story. :)

RE: Mark VIII's in Magazine again......

Just happened to catch that last night at the grocery store. I just skimmed through it, but it looked like there were two stock Marauders running a full second apart. What's up with that???

RE: Mark VIII's in Magazine again......

Unfortunatly,
Geno was still troubleshooting the NOS system that morning.
We had some electrical problems.
If it were working right and the bottle was filled,I would have been in the 12's for sure.

I didn't see the issuse yet what month is it for ?

Thanx,
Matt

RE: Mark VIII's in Magazine again......

Pretty sure it's DECEMBER.

Kale, I "know" you guys on the "left coast" like to feel you're ahead of us east coasters but it's the Jan 04 issue like I said in the first post here (LOL). ;)

RE: Mark VIII's in Magazine again......

I picked up a copy today. Congrats Matt & Walt!

RE: Mark VIII's in Magazine again......

Matt you gotta get that car to the track with the NOS operation. That 13.8 run was all motor right?

RE: Mark VIII's in Magazine again......

Yes and no,
There were electrical problems and I would get an intermitten "burst" on my best 2 runs.
Bottle pressure was only 600psi so it was usless.
The weather was not ideal either, as Walt was running 1/2 sec slower then normal.(92 degrees and humid)

I was totally unprepared for the day as we had installed the system like the night before and were still trying to finish things up that morning.
I figure it should do low,low 13's /high 12's now.
I really need to get slicks, looking at nitto 555's.
Which ones do you run ?

RE: Mark VIII's in Magazine again......

Nitto extreme 555's. YOu have to do a 10 second burnout with them to get them hot. Run it up through first gear into second in the water trap and hold it for a couple seconds. The warmer the better. If you do not get them warm they do not stick so well when you spray off the line. Are the tracks still open over there?

RE: Mark VIII's in Magazine again......

I think Westhampton speedway (closest to me) closes this week.
Not sure about E-town.
That's not even my problem.
Between working 2 jobs inc Saturdays and the hours I have to go in (3am 1st job) I just can't seem to find the time to race.
(except for embarresing the kids on the street now and then)
That was my first time at the track in like 15 years !

I wouldn't even consider that an intermittent burst, Matt that system was DEAR that day, zero NOS, you were all motor Buddy and kickin A_ _!

RE: Mark VIII's in Magazine again......

I got the mag and read the great article..i jhave a couple questions about one of the cars...I don't have the mag in front of me right now...but i can't remember if it was matts or walts car...i was reading the specs and it says the rear is stock with 4 10 gears ,is it true your not running a posi or limited slip rear end,I was under the impression if you changed gears you would have to get a limited slip or the swap would be useless, just wondering,I would like to gear swap 3 73 and get a limited slip later.

RE: Mark VIII's in Magazine again......

Both Walt and I have Trac-loc (posi) neither is stock.
You would be better off just doing it all at once,
as the labor to R+R and go into the diff again would just be a big waste of money.
Also having 3:73's with no posi will just waste horsepower spinning 1 tire.
Do it once,do it right.

RE: Mark VIII's in Magazine again......

thanks for saving me $$$,BTW lets make sure MM&FF do another Luxobarge shootout,it sounds like people are not interested, and how come dennis didn't send any of his cars i know from this site there are a lot of sweet and fast Marks out there!Where was the terminviiior or the tasca Mark,Geno should a ran with you guys ,anyway lets press the mag to keep doing stories on the Marks,Vics and Maurauders(mostly Marks)

RE: Mark VIII's in Magazine again......

Glad I could help.
