Mil light today?

I was running low on fuel today and started to get a mis and a mill light. the fuel was low 32 miles to empty I pulled off the freeway and refuled.The gas cap had a lot of pressure when I opened it. It is the first time that has ever happened.Is our gas cap vented to relieve pressure? Fuel gauge is also off It took 18.5 gallons to fill the tank.

I thought the caps were vented to prevent this buildup from happeneing. I may be wrong though.

It has been my unforunate experience that miles to empty is just a good guess not to be to be taken as an absolute. When the warning goes off time to get gas SOON. If you have been doing a lot of highway driving the computer will assume you are still going to get 23 to 27 mpg when in fact if you are now driving in city traffic you might only get 10 to 13 mpg and therfore only have 30 to 33 miles to go before empty not 50.

Yea i've head quite a few times where i added more gas than i'm supposed to, lets say i "use" 14.5 gallons i usually always add 15.1 i dunno if its my car of if i'm getting jacked by the gas stations. I know for a fact that once i was getting jacked since i was supposed to have 1 gallon left and i filled up with 18.6. I was pissed.xo

Yes... the computer and the gauge will LIE to you! Trust me... 3am, rural Iowa highway, chug chug chug... 1500 miles after a new fuel filter.

Just remember the computer is guessing based on the past driving and cannot predict your future driving.

That is what I told a cop once when he stopped me and asked why I was driving so fast. I told him I had to hurry up and get to the gas station before I ran out of gas. I was actually racing a 69 Z28 with my 70 Torino Cobra.

It worked out ok the cop was a Big Ford fan and liked how I beat the camaro out of the hole. We did get a Lecture on the Ill's of Getting Caught Street Racing. I don't do that any more.
