I ended up removing the brake booster and firewall insulation pad, and am happy I did. I found some rust under there that needed Morted, and painted.

Here is the first shot of the new paint. It's a 2005 Mazda color "Blazing Copper". I know I don't have a hole for the intake, but I am building an aluminum intake tube to pull air from the stock location, and will cut a new hole when it's done. There is less than a cup of body filler in that repair panel. It is 18 gauge steel TIG'd to the stock steel.

Thats about it for now. I should have the rest of the body work done in a couple of weeks, and have it painted a couple of days after that. I'm laying 8 coats of clear on top of 4 coats of base. Once it's done, it's going in to storage for 1 month to let the clear harden completly. Then wet sanded with 2000, 2500, and 3000 in progressive stages, then polished. this paint is gonna be 8 miles deep.
Hope you like the color.
Mike
