My new toy(s)-2 within a week!

First let me start by saying, a few weeks ago I bought a little hooptie to run around/commute in.

1988 Dodge Ram 50 pick-up(same as Mistubishi MightyMax). 2.0, A/T, P/S, and it used to be a city truck for the local govnmt. it even had the flashing yellow light still on the roof.

it would have been perfect except it was carburated, and the carbs on these sucked.

I bought it cheap, put front and rear brakes on it, and "turned" it for 3x what I paid.

Then my GF calls me at work and tells me about a car some older fella traded in at her dealership. From the sounds of it, I had to have it.

1973 Mercury Montego MX station wagon. 7104 built, but even fewer came with the optional 3rd row seating(seats 8).
ENGINE:
351C, 82k miles,

and I could park it at a car show and win a trophy. It is THAT clean inside and out(needs some of my magic touch under the hood though).

Sony Xplod am/fm/cassette with 10-disk changer, 6 speaker sound system,

amazing tow package with electric brake controller, A/C, the works. No power windows though :(
I took the truck's "profit" and bought the wagon. And yes, I smoked in it. The original owner did not. That's "smelly good" in the ashtray.

The only problem is(was)...the color. it is a light green(like mint chip ice cream) with dark green interior.

it has American racing 15x7 rims,

It came with a flowmaster true dual exhaust set up with X pipe. Even came with a car cover big enough to cover half of my zip code.

it gets amazing gas mileage for its 4300 lb size, cruises like a rolls royce, and has enough power to keep even me happy.(plus the added exhaust sound makes it even sound fast!)

anyway, one owner car, came with every piece of literature a new car owner gets, even the bill of sale from 1973(yes, he financed it!). original blue/gold plates, and license plate frame from selling dealer.

The OTHER new toy came into play at the drag races last Sunday. a mopar nut we know was selling a little project car. 1967 Dodge Dart GT. (this isnt it, but an example of what it will resemble, except the color)

383cu.in. 4-bbl, 727 trans, 8-3/4 with 3.91 posi. 9" slicks, front runners, fiberglass doors, roll cage, B&M shifter, lexan door windows, and even comes with(but in-installed) a fiberglass front clip. trunk mounted battery with on/off switch, fuel cell, Autometer guages, racing seat, centerlines, you name it. a race-ready car. TURN KEY. needs paint though...it's flat-black primer right now.

$2700 is all we paid -race ready. he was running it that day. it has a piece of junk edelbrock carb(with vaccuum leaks) and some junk Offenhauser intake, and he weighs at least 375 lbs. yes...a "big boy".

the car still managed to run a 13.50 @ 90 mph.

he delivered it to us that night, and the next day we installed a de-tuned 850cfm Holley. I am buying a edelbrock intake for it off ebay, and it will easily get into the high 12's.

ever since we sold both of our Hilborn injected Darts a couple years ago, we have really missed racing. NOW we can go play again!

Oh, and since we have a trailer, the Mercury wagon can tow the racecar! talk about timing! we got a full race package for less than $5000!!! tow vehicle, race car, and all! we already have a cherry '89 Dodge Ram 150 we can tow with, but this Merc is just oo cool.

anyway...pics of the Mercury. Aparently, it is one VERY rare car. gets better mpg than a modern-day SUV, seats more, costs less, and easier to fix! I'll post pics of the race car when I take some.

whole album of the wagon:

RE: My new toy(s)-2 within a week!

Nice wagon there man. It's so cool to find an older car in such great shape. (The steering wheel reminds me of the 1972 Maverick I had in college. It was my first car, a hand-me-down from my parents.)

RE: My new toy(s)-2 within a week!

Craig that wagon is awesome! I personally think that the color is neat. a little slice of the 70s. :9 Good luck with all those new rides!

RE: My new toy(s)-2 within a week!

You have a used car lot on your hands now, good luck with them all. That green on green were the colors of that time, just keep it like that.

Funny you should say that...I run a Limo company for a living!

Our 8 passenger Limos go for $75/hr+ tip.
I can seat 7 in my wagon....Hmmmmmmmm
