Need help finding compatible CD changer (part #)

I have 2001 Lincoln Continental with full console and Alpine stereo with CD controls. Unfortunately the car came with no CD changer (only radio and tape built into the headunit). I am browsing Ebay and they have a lot of CD changers for Ford/Lincoln/Mercury vehicles. Unfortunately last two auctions that listed CD changers pulled from Continentals had two different part numbers.

My question is, are there standard part numbers I should be looking for? If not, what other changers are exchangeable with the one made specially for Lincoln? Should I be looking for a specific plug in the back?

Thanks.

Pull yours and LOOK at the plug arrangement on the back. P/N's are all going to be different....just pick one out that had the same mount and plug arrangement.

Does anybody know how many pins should the Alpine radio have for the CD changer? I have looked online and it looks like the standard radio has 12 pins but I was unable to find any reference for the premium stereo. I just would like to confirm that without removing the radio.

Sorry...I think the pin arrangement is the same - with AND w/o the cd...they just don't use all the pins when they have lessor radios.

I think Continental's radios have multiple sockets in the back. One of them (square one) is for the CD changer. I just do not know if the Alpine radio had different layout though. I guess I can spend $70 to get used changer and find out. Most likely it is like you said, the socket is standard and they just use all or less pins.

Thanks.

Man...I remember 4 pages of CD changer stuff....I wish people would use the search. :)

Also....I bought a brand new Sony Xplode 10 dish on eBay for 150 bucks a couple years ago and it took me about an hour to install. It works by changing your stereo to a FM channel and it picks up the sound. You can find a stereo place that will install it too and I bet it will be WAY less of a hassle than this. Remember, just because it doesn't have it from the factory, doesn't mean you need to install factory only parts.

CDs are out dated, did you ever consider getting an MP3 or IPOD interface? I got one for my Vette’s stock head unit, now I have 100’s of songs I recorded off my CDs on my ipod nano. So much better then messing with a CD changer and carrying a lot of CDs. I sould probely get one for my Lincoln as well.

I did search but I just wasn't sure about the part numbers.

This is for my wife's car. She does not like the small mp3 players and still want to use CDs. I have found CD changer that is listed as compatible with my car and my Alpine radio. Got it for only $75 and will install it this weekend. I think that's better because I know she does not want to loose the steering wheel radio controls.

Thanks.

Sweet....sounds like you got it figured out. :) Since you have an aftermarket head unit, it should be a cake walk.
