Need some medical advice

Can't tell if anything's cut. I'd go see the doctor and make sure you're up to date on your tetnus. Did you hurt the bone? Maybe even go to an urgent care.

clip the excess nail and keep it covered with a bandaid or something to prevent dirt and infection. use some neosporin or something on it too to prevent infection. the open part will prolly scab over and a the nail will grow back. i had a nail get split in half horizontally once. top part eventually fell off and now you would never notice.

yea I concur, thats nasty, Get it covered ASAP

Definitely make sure it doesn't get infected, and make sure you've had a tetanus booster considering where you injured the nailbed.

I got my pinky finger slammed in a door. Same thing. The more of a nail you leave on, the better IMO. That way you have less to cover and less time to wait till it grows out. Keep the nail bed covered and soaked in neosporin. You DO NOT want it to scab over or dry out! This will make the nail grow funky...like mine.

Why not just go to the ER?

I'll go to the ER if I lop off a finger.

I refuse to look at the pictures, but I will tell you that I had my nail ripped out last summer and went to the ER and am glad I did because the doctor needed to tuck the "root" back under the skin and sew it up. If it hadn't been done I would probably have ended up with the nail jutting out at some crazy angle and not attached to the top of my finger. It's been six months and I trimmed it for the first time last week. It's still a little messed up looking but at least it looks like a fingernail.

Just go to the damn doctor and quit trying to be a tough guy.

Here a picture I made.

It's not as bad as your fingernail was.
