OIL in PLUG VALLEYS

Where is everyone getting their new gasket set for valve covers? Not any oil at the valve covers themselves, but lots in the spark plug holes.....

Are they still available at the Lincoln dealers?

Those are the ones I ordered today, Mike. $40 something plus shipping. An hour after I ordered I got a shipping notice. Can't knock that, eh?

i have changed a few pairs of valve cover gaskets, i always use the felpro kit, only because i can get them locally and cheap, and i dont have to wait for shipping, and no problems yet. the driverside cover will be a pain.

I'm not understanding how one ascertains a bad head gasket when Bud says he is getting oil in the plug wells. There are o-rings around the spark plug holes, and wouldn't ya know it, if they go bad you get oil in the plug wells. It is quite common on these engines. Mine are getting done with the intake swap cause they are weeping already. Not trying to be a smartypants, I was just surprised that someone guessed head gasket. :D

Wow, just checked delivery date... TOMORROW!!!! KEWL! Rock on, Rock Auto! Oh yeah, I ordered 'em GROUND delivery.

Give Steve a break..... he's kinda new around around these parts....he'll learn.

Well at least i never called them plug valleys :D

All i know is i never bothered to do mine because of the clearance issue on the driver side and the oil there has caused me no issues. The work is not like the valve covers of lets say a single push rod cam Chevy 350, those would be easy to do. With the OVC 4 cam 4.6 it is could be the same amount of work as a Chevy 350 head gaskets. :)

Oil in there is common - i'd just let it be, personally. It doesn't hit the ground, and it'll keep the spark plugs threads from freezing in the heads!

From what I have been told, use Ford parts - gaskets & o rings as a first choice. I had to have the spark plug o rings replaced after my motor build. I was not happy about that. The brake booster was moved out of the way for the drivers side, but I do not think the motor was lifted to help make room.

I know....I was gonna keep going but I'm part of the BOD so I didn't want to. :)

Aren't they technically called "spark plug journals"? I could be wrong.....

On my 97 Tbird before it died I found oil on 2-3 of them too, with the SOHC 4.6L.

No the "Spark Plug Journals" are a series of Harry Potter style books....good reads but not for me. I'm more into the valley series. LMAO!

I think you're right though.
