Right now I am doing the 3:73 FRPP pumpkin swap and I'm stuck big time. How on earth do you remove the half-shaft? I am trying to remove the spindle but one of the two lower torx bolts is hitting the CV joint housing and I can't remove the bolt to pull the half-shaft out with the spindle. Am I even doing this right..do I need to remove the spindle?? Please help!!
Thanks

RE: QUICK HEELLLPP PLEASE!!

Most common way of doing this is hammering the halfshaft out of the spidle, once you remove that big 36mm nut. Just be careful, and leave the nut at the end of the halfshaft. Once you get it loose, there is one position, in which you can slide the bolt out, with the halfshaft still half way in the spindle. When we replaced the pumpkin on my car, there was no way in hell to remove the halfshaft from the spindle, so we ended up grinding off a little bit of the lip on that lower bolt to clear the halfshaft. I believe tou can then put the bolt back from the other side, and not have the problem ever again.

I gave you a call today about this and got your machine.

RE: QUICK HEELLLPP PLEASE!!

I think that the bottom bolt that is in their backwards has him caught. WHy ford did that I do not know. YOu have to pull the nut off the halfshaft then pull the halfshaft out as far as it will go then tilt the spindle to get that bolt out. After that it is cake and cookies

RE: QUICK HEELLLPP PLEASE!!

Joe, when I replaced that bolt, I put it back in from the other side, with the nut on the halfshaft side to save me some time in the future. Do you think there is any downside to this ?

RE: QUICK HEELLLPP PLEASE!!

When I did mine I cut that bolt off with a cutting wheel and just went and got a new one for like $2 at the parts store

RE: QUICK HEELLLPP PLEASE!!

Alright..we finished soon after I made my urgent post. We ended up prying up on the rear portion of the spindle a bit and and tapping the bolt out. When we got the bolt out we ground a flat spot so it would go in easy..which it did. After that it was all a breeze!

I would like to say a HUGE thank you to Geno for returning my call within like 15 minutes on a Saturday. I have never bought anything from him YET..but I have spoken to him twice over the phone so far and both times it seemed like he had nothing else to do but answer all my questions and offer his expert advice. If half the busiess people around the country were like this everything would be so much easier! Once again, Geno, thank you so much for all your help and advice. I know its normal practice for you but you have no idea how much it is appreciated!

Craig..you're right..that's exactly the reason why we did not hear the call!! Except they were air tools!!

RE: QUICK HEELLLPP PLEASE!!

So how are you liking em? I will have some coming to me soon, and will be definitely needing to read up too.

RE: QUICK HEELLLPP PLEASE!!

The Trac-Loc is awesome however, I would really like to try the 4:10's to see what ia difference they would make. I honestly don't see a big difference with the 3:73's. Oh, well another project!!

RE: QUICK HEELLLPP PLEASE!!

Congrats on the job. Guess what? the next time someone posts a thread like yours, you will know the answer.

I am surprised you didnt notice a difference with the 3.73's . Due to the commute I have, and the fact that I dont feel up to needing a force lube in the tranny tail, I was gonna go with 3.73's/trac-loc. Hmmmm. Maybe I could go 4.10's and force lube the tranny tail. If the 3.73's arent that noticeable, it makes me think, why stop there, and just go for the throat!

if you run the car down the 1320... let me know what the e.t. improvement was with the 3.73's!!

I could muster a 15.07 @ 94.48mph, in drive, bone stock. I would love to add the gears/trac-loc, and a chip and see 14.50's!
