Rear Shocks

Replaced the rear shocks and mounts on my '96 (115,000 mi)on Friday. If you have an extra pair of hands for the trunk, you don't have to even lift the car to do this job. My 15 yr old son guided the new Monroe shock and mount in to the hole as I pushed it up into the frame from the ground. Took about an hour total (he's still learning, so it can take a little longer when he helps). Also, I didn't have all the perfect tools (like no deep metrics, had to use SAE and they don't always work well) and had to take the first reinstall out because it wouldn't fit with the Monroe washer attached. Had to take the original washer off the original shock. That removal was fun. Anyway, the banging noise is gone and the ride seems the same, so I saved around $140 by buying the mounts from Eddie ($28 each) and the shocks from the auto parts store ($30 each).

RE: Rear Shocks

I did this a couple months ago. Lucky me, I noticed the washer size difference beforehand.

Sounds like your son was in the trunk. It is easier to reach with the back seat out.

Just pull up on seat bottom and it comes right out.Remove two nuts from bottom of back, and it comes right out. The shock's top is only about 3 inches behind the seat back.

The Sensa-tracs handle amazing well in sharp turns, to be so cheap. Normal markviii ride in straight line.
