Seafoam took away 2mpg?

According to the computer display I was getting 24-25 mpg. Now I'm getting 21.5-22 mpg after running seafoam through the engine intake and gas. I used a centrally located vacuum line to suck in about half a bottle of seafoam at 2500-3000 rpm then let it sit for a while then drove it around the block until it stopped smoking. I also dumped the other half of a bottle into about 1/4-1/3 tank of gas.

I also used it in a 98 Transport and a 79 4x4 without any trouble.

You may want to consider additional treatments until the smoke show is minimal. On severely clogged induction systems, it could take more than a couple treatments to get rid of the carbon deposits completely.

I suggest changing the fuel filter as well after the round of treatments. If the fuel tank and lines were slimy enough over time, the sludge from old fuel could be deposited in the fuel filter.

Oh the smoke was gone after about 2 minutes of driving it. Just enough to get the rest of the seafoam out of the engine. I'll try another batch of seafoam this weekend. First I have to figure out my rotor/wheel rattle issue.

By the way, you did change the oil afterwords right?

You don't need to do that unless you add it to the crankcase.

RE: Seafoam took away 2mpg?

right, I didn't change the oil because I didn't add it to the oil, just the intake and gas. If sea foam found it's way into my oil from either of those entry points I'd have more serious problems than a 2 mpg loss. Though, my 2mpg loss may be related to my front driver's wheel issue I brought up in the suspension forum.

I didn't connect the dots, but you're absolutely correct. ;)

Change your plugs. The crud that SeaFoam releases can foul them.

In all my experience, I've never encountered fouled plugs on the Mark VIII. I suppose it's highly possible. But I certainly don't worry about fouled plugs, not the way I drive the car. }(
