Steeda Pulley

Got my single crankshaft pulley from steeda today. Does anyone know exactly how much shorter my serpentine belt needs to be? I am pretty sure it in 1 1/4" shorter.

I'm so glad they are selling the single pulley now, its $110 instead of the $149 from ASP.

RE: Steeda Pulley

Ok, Can someone please tell me whether or not the Steeda pullies? Does anyone here drive their Mark with the pullies daily, and if so, any problems ?. I am on the verge of ordering them, but I keep forcing myself back from others' words about having problems with them. And if I do order them, should I just get the crank pulley or the 3-piece pulley set ?. Thanks for your time.

RE: Steeda Pulley

Jon, save up and get a real performance gain either from a chip, dynotune, or a set of headers. I know it's easier and tempting to buy the inexpensive stuff, but that's how you'll end up with marginal perf. gains and a lot of mo. spent.

I used the ASP 3 pulley set.The crank pulley has to be removed with a pulley puller. The rest are pretty easy. But,I don't know about using the alternator pulley account of overloading the alternator at idle RPM.I have had no other problems with these parts,my waterpump has 157000 miles on it.

RE: Steeda Pulley

Thanks for the suggestion Jeremi. I just realized I will be meeting up with sleeper to get it dynotuned by Jerry. Definently saving up now. Hopefully all works out well, and I finally get this Mark Dyno tuned. Headers would be great. But I don't have the money for that labor. ;( Also those rims are calling my name ;).

RE: Steeda Pulley

Although if you really want to see a difference, go with gears and trac-loc!! Best thing I ever did. (Of course a 125 shot would do the trick!) A dyno-tune is useless and will give you marginal gains UNLESS you have the more elaborate mods like, S/C, N2O, or MAF which does nothing unless you have either of the preceeding two mods IMO.

Anyway, back to the pulleys; does anyone have a part number for the belt they used after doing the singe crankshaft pulley?

BTW, Dave, is that belt that is 2" shorter working out good for you so far?

On my car, even if the dyno tune had cost me hp (which it didn't, i picked up about 10-15 hp), it was worth every penny. It made the car drive that much better, IMO.

RE: Steeda Pulley

John, the install is fairly simple, you don't even have to raise the car. All you need is a "pulley puller set", you can borrow Pepboys or Autozone, an impact wrench and some high temp silicone.

Here is what I did:
1. Disconnect the battery
2. Disconnect the electric fan
3. Unbolt the two bolts that hold the fan in place
4. Move/slide the fan closer to the engine so that there is a gap between the fan and radiator about 1-1.5 inch. you might have to bend the bracket that holds the battery cables if it gets in the way.
5. This was the hardest part for me, "zig zag" the fan from left to right while still maintaining that 1-1.5 inch gap.
6. Now you have a clear work area, use the impact wrench to remove the bolt
7. Use the "pulley puller set" to remove the pulley
8. Put some high temp RTV silicone on the ridge of the new pulley
9. Use the impact wrench and the bolt they have supplied to set the pulley in place
10. Take out the pulley you just put in and put the original one back in
11. Start putting every thing back and your done

RE: Steeda Pulley

Damn, I got jipped, I have been reading about the bolt supplied with the pulley but I did not get one. Maybe because I only bought the one pulley? Anyone got one to spare that I can use and send back?

RE: Steeda Pulley

I've been using a March piggyback pulley system for over two years (20k miles) with no problems. That includes 100 1/4 mile passes at the strip. I use the AC most of the time here in Florida and haven't had any overheating problems. Also no charging problems. There was a noticable improvment in low end power.

RE: Steeda Pulley

Thanks Dave, I appreciate it. I realized that all I have to do is get a longer bold and use the factory pulley to set the new pulley in place. Thats what I'm gonna do!

BTW, I was only able to find a belt that was 1" shorter than factory. Anyone forsee and problem with this? I think it will work fine but any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

RE: Steeda Pulley

I've been using a March piggyback pulley system...

What precisely is a piggyback pulley system compared to the Steeda pulley?

A piggyback pulley uses the stock harmonic balancer and it fits between the block and the balancer. A Steeda pully replaces the stock harmonic ballancer but is smaller in diameter.
