I noticed that there appear to be encoders on the pumpkin on each
sidle where the shafts exit next to cogged type gear type apparatus.
Are these magnetic switches for traction control?
See,I finally crawled waaay under it.Almost got stuck.
Oh yeah,My partner at the salvage yard told me the rear axle on my
towncar was identical to my Mark VIII,any comments?

towncars have solid axles. not the same at all.

the rings you're seeing are probably the ABS sensors for the traction control.

the traction controll works off the ABS system so yes the sensors are for the ABS/traction controll. basicley the way it works is as the toothed ring passes by the sensor it sends a small AC voltage to the computer and the computer reads this voltage and can tell how fast the ring is moving in relation to the front rings that are on the front hubs behinde the brake rotors

Pretty standard FPM or FPS sensors.Lets unit know which wheel is spinning and computes variable TC or ABS action?
