why do police ride your bumper?

I'm not sure video taping is a great idea by the way.

I didn't mean on a stop...I just meant as he was tailgating. You could easily hold your phone over your shoulder with tinted windows and video tape the cops distance without him knowing.

I've never been video taped as far as I know....but this guy has. :D

Funny, I don't get nervous and have never been on the job.

Barry is too busy texting to know who's behind him anyways. He probably didn't tell you I pulled him over....he was driving VERY nervously! That's his car below.

Most people I think get nervous when there's a cruiser behind them because the police have a stigma attached to them where people a lot of times feel that cops will stop them for no reason.

I think you're right about that...its stereotyping. One of my neighbors wouldn't talk to me and I've lived here since October. It wasn't till a week ago that they came over and introduced themselves by offering me to use their log splitter....AND giving me two cords of split firewood. Turns out they weren't sure what type of person I was because I'm a cop....pretty lame.

So are you going to put some hidden lights and strobes on the 97? I'm sure it could keep up with some serious speeders ;)

Maybe if it was black or white (or both). I remember driving in front of my dad's 97 when I took him in mine to go get it. From about 10 car lengths back it looks like a cop car.

Re: the stereotyping, I know I totally trusted the cops here, and still do for the most part, but not traffic wise, since the time they pulled over my son for no reason and actually searched my car. You just get to know the towns around here who have cops who will pull you over for anything, and yeah, that makes me nervous, possibly because my car is now actually illegal with the tint, but I've never been pulled over for it.

Again, bad and negative contact with the police. It's already bad enough when a person has to be pulled over but to do something like that totally leaves a bad taste.

I did not know you took that pic. LOL

Please e-mail it to me.

No way, it's evidence of your dibockles.

I've never seen that video but jeez! I feel a little safer here in MA because its unlawful to record voice without the other persons consent, on top of the fact that I would never talk to someone that way. :p

Love slick top cruisers by the way! My old slick top (car 54) from Worcester PD is in the background of a picture in the Nov edition of Law and Order Magazine.

That's assault with a deadly weapon, no matter who you do that to. You had intent and if they hit you, it'd an intentional act and you'll be found at fault for the crash AND the misdemeanor assault.

Are you serious? I've always been told that if you're in rear-ender, at least when it comes to insurance, the person doing the rear-ending is considered automatically at fault. Not to mention how much they drove it into our heads in driving class to allow x number of seconds between you and the car in front of you. I have lightly tapped my brakes in the past just to get some moron off my ass, and on a couple of occasions they panicked and slammed hard on theirs. Mission accomplished as far as I'm concerned. There's no excuse for tailgating someone like that, especially a cop who should know better.

The magic word here is "INTENT". How do they prove that a cat didn't run across the road in front of me??? They were too close to my rear to see it!

Yes.

You have just proven your "intent". :)

Bud...they prove it by independent witnesses. "That a-hole was tailgating everyone, weaving in and out of traffic, then all of a sudden, the car he was tailgating slammed on his brakes for NO REASON!"

Remember this?? Crash

I took the statement from the guy that this Armored Truck rearended. I actually got him to admit to "brake checking" the guy in the truck because there were no other cars around and the truck was following too close. Gave this admission of guilt to the handling Officer (to remain unnamed) and he chose to "ignore" this and found the truck driver at fault.

That was until the truck company downloaded the video from the cab.......OMG that was the craziest thing I've ever seen. Imagine the truck just cruising.....maybe 5 to 6 car lengths from the back of a Saturn at probably 60 MPH. All of a sudden, for no reason (can plainly see no cars anywhere in front) the Saturn brakes....HARD....! The driver of the truck gets the WTFOMG face (see in cab view, lol) and turns and slams on his brakes. Hits back of Saturn, spins round, slides backwards into center divider, and flips over. I got to see it ALL on camera. OMG! Poor passenger in the truck was bouncing around all over.

So...long story short...Assault with a deadly weapon. Assault is defined as having the ability (vehicle) and the intent (slamming on brakes for no reason) to harm or hurt someone. Deadly weapon (vehicle). You don't actually have to cause any damage. I can run up to you with a baseball bat and say I'm gonna beat your F'n face in. That's Assault. When I hit you in the ear with the bat....that's Battery. :D There's your lesson for the day.

see, here in NY the bat part is menacing and the hitting is assault, no such thing as battery. Just different levels of assault for higher levels of damage but as for culpable mental state, J is right, if you act recklessly and fail to perceive a risk then you will be responsible even if the minor infraction that was being committed was annoying you.

I really dissagree with that having anyy intent. Am I just supposed to pray a cat actually doesn't run in front of me? Cops don't havr super human reactions, they don't have super sticky tires and racing brakes.

...and you gotta be smart enough to "PICK your Spot"...... Not that I condone any sort of thing, but I KNOW that it's happened in the past..... twasn't me!

Lol, obviously if something does run in front of your car it's a different story, now you're just arguing to be difficult. I already told you what to do in the beginning of the thread and it didn't involve brake checking.

So next time I should just call the the police on him.
