I can understand if he was running my plate or something, but he was about a half second behind me on the way home to day for a good 10 minutes. this seems to happen a lot, at least with me.

i'm a speed demon but the only time I ride a bumper is if I am trying to prove a point and I am out of my area for writing.

So is it considered entrapment if you speed up and go over the limit? (assuming you're driving in the right lane, and not the passing lane)

It was entirely one lane roads. And we were in city limits and it was city police. Once he started riding my ass i sped up to like 4 over, even used cruise control. But im not going to go any faster than that with one on me like that.

And its not like I had been speeding or anything when he first saw me I was slowing down to turn then he caught up to me and did that.

I don't know why they (cops) do that. Seems to be "the thing" to do around here. I drive like a grandma unless I'm trying to go somewhere. But then again, I don't try to "bully" people to the other lane unless there IS another lane, lol.

Used to happen all the time in my Yellow 5.0....its like an ego thing or something...trying to get you to make a mistake so they can pull you over. I would suggest video taping them with your phone, showing how long and close they were too you, then sell it to the media. :D

I have just pulled off the road to let them get by (turn into a street or drive/parking lot). I believe what J says and I don't need to get caught up into making a mistake because of the distraction they are causing.

I was serious too. You could also get a license plate number or similar and take it to a sergeant. :)

You know you're not the only person they do that to and it gives the rest of us bad names.

Brake check or down shift a gear.

That's assault with a deadly weapon, no matter who you do that to. You had intent and if they hit you, it'd an intentional act and you'll be found at fault for the crash AND the misdemeanor assault.

Omg j, you gotta stop, lol. Look don't slow or anything, if you're not breaking a law, you're good. If he wants to go around you, he/she will. Just keep driving, I never do it to itimidate unless I see an offense out of my area and I know I can't write it, and sharon, no, its not entrapment. Usually speed summonses need speed trained officers, not everyone in local pd out here is speed qualified, usually just highway guys.

Well if they follow at a safe distance they wouldn't have to worry about running into me if I happen to slip it into 2nd. Not that I would.

I don't know about other states but in FL there are terribly stupid laws which place the person behind you at fault in pretty much any situation where some one is rear ended. At least that's been my experience.

But he shouldnt do it for the same reasons none of us should, if a cat or a kid ran out infront of me and I had to slam on the brakes, he would have been all over me, and then I may be all over that cat or kid. It was a residential area.

I think he was just trying to " indimidate" Its a smallish city, I've had both pleasant and unpleasant experiances with these guys. Luckily my street is technically unincorporated so I get county deputies if I have to call. They tend to be a bit more reasonable.

Come to think of it back in high school I actually asked our campus cop (same department) why they did this and he said it was to scare people into ditch drugs and whatnot.

Still annoying though.

When anyone is following me to close and I'm not holding up traffic I just move the mirror so I can't see them. They can get as close as they want. If they feel the need to pass and get one car closer to their destination they can. Problem solved.

I get close on occasion but it's usually so I can see a dirty license plate or something. If a squirrel runs out and you slam the brakes and the cop hits you, he will be at fault if he was too close. People also tend to go under the limit when in front of a marked cruiser so cops usually have to stay behind for even longer if they are going the same way as you. And as long as you are driving on a public way, cops can drive the same road behind you for as long as they want to, unfortunately.

I'm not sure video taping is a great idea by the way. (Nothing against you J) City/Town police are always under survelience when they make a stop (pedestrians, store cameras, etc) so even if the officer is doing nothing wrong he may think you are trying to jam him up purposely. Most officers dont like a camera in their face while doing their job. Troopers usually only have an audience of speeding vehicles going by a stop at 70mph or the occupants of the stopped vehicle so I'm not sure if the camera thing is as much of an issue on the highway. (Correct me if I'm wrong J)

If youre not breaking the law, you should have nothing to worry about. I STILL get nervous with a cruiser behind me though, even after nearly 7 years on the job.

Funny, I don't get nervous and have never been on the job.

Most people I think get nervous when there's a cruiser behind them because the police have a stigma attached to them where people a lot of times feel that cops will stop them for no reason. As a teen who grew up in a tough neighborhood, I have been stopped and questioned for what I thought was "no reason" and know how that feels. Or, maybe it's just me
