Coolant suggestions

I used strait water with some water wetter in my race engines but You have to switch to antifreeze in the winter FYI.

Alrighty then. Back on topic people.

With the transmission drama in my rear view mirror, and farther everyday, I picked up some coolant, and set about to check the crossover tube.

After getting the engine cover off, and looking at it for abit I grabbed a tool and tried to open the cap. The socket deal snapped off, and still the cap is on the crossover tube. I grabbed some big ass channel locks and tried to get it off, but that cap is on their tighter than anything.

Any suggestions on how I can get it loose?

Been there.

I had to dramel out the square hole to allow a 3/8 ratchet to fit. The cap couldn't break that one.

Also, this probably doesnt help NOW.. but in the future.
ONLY use impact grade 3/8 to 1/3 inch adapter, They are hardened and wont break off in the hole.

You are going to have to get creative to get that off...

Think EZout or some other type of removal tool.

you have a GOOD AMOUNT of material to work with, the top of that plug is probably 2.5 inches thick.. so dont be afraid to drill a tap hole in the top.

Replacements can be gotten at the ford dealer, they are 20-30ish dollars.. I replaced one last year and it wasn't "OH MY GOD" expensive like most parts are.

Ok then. Sadly I only had a little house hold type wrench. When my father brought my tools up from across the country, the main tool box was locked, and I didn't notice until after he left.... Not that he would have had the keys anyway...

I tried working the plug both ways just to get it loose, but just to be sure, which way would I turn it to get it off? I just wanna make sure it's not a reverse thread!

I used a mini-propane torch and heated the tube right at the threads. Then with a large pair of channel locks it came right loose.

Ok, so I've given it a dose or two of PB Blaster, and I'll let it soak.

When I put it back together, can I use teflon tape on the threads or would that be bad?

Here is what they were thinking: Let's make it a plug, not a cap!

I really wanna line up these engineers and bitch slap everyone of them!
