how to clean steering column potentiometer

Well, I finally got a good working column in her car. I took the first one out and will have to rexamine the potentiometer later. I took her original column that was not working at all apart and cleaned everything. This time I cleaned it with Deoxit contact cleaner. Then treated it with the Deoxit Fader Lube spray. Then regreased it with the Deoxit contact grease. I could only find the 5% solution Fader spray. They have a 100% spray that provides full lubrication. This one now works perfect in all directions. I may still track down some of their Fader grease or the 100% solution Fader lube as it is specifically formulated for treating potentiometers and sliding contacts. Their website has some good technical papers on this topic. Hopefully the column I removed has a good potentiometer and it is just a mater of inadequate cleaning.

Turned out that the troublesome column had a bad potentiometer. Tried cleaning it again but no luck. Ended up swapping in the potentiometer from the column in my car with bent tilt shaft. I could not see any visible problems with it. Will have ot look at it closer later. At least both cars have fully functional columns now.
