First earthquakes, now hurricanes!!!

North Carolina and its Outer Banks and Virginia's Tidewater areas are in Irene's sights! Hopefully it will stay at the coastline or veer more to the east for us in Baltimore area!!

Long Island, CT, RI and MA & ME..... watch out for this one!

NJ announced state of emergency already. Predicted path of the hurricane is said to make it the worst storm anyone in NJ has ever experienced :(

Whe I lived back home in New Jersey I experienced Hurricane Belle (August 1976) and Hurricane Gloria (September 1985). I hope Irene doesn't cause much damage up and down the coast.

Well, I'm off to VA now to inspect the earthquake damage, and then I'll be back in NJ just in time for Irene...... Helluva a weekend!

ew Jersey's Governor Chris Christie has declared a state of emergency so his pizza deliver can get through

I just thought I'd check in myself. Even in way over here in Minnesota, this is getting lots of coverage. I keep hearing names of places that I am only familiar with, because members of this club live there.

Long island, Cape Cod, and Martha's Vineyard were all mentioned in the same breath by the newscaster this morning.

Be safe guys, and check in when you can. We're worried about you.

I'm keeping DadSax's CE in the garage and sending the rest of the fleet to weather out the storm at my parents' house (they are not surrounded by trees like I am).

I'm still not entirely convinced that this is going to be much of a storm, but I guess we'll see... I'm happy it's not on a direct track for NYC any longer, I was a little worried about my sister, who lives right next to the water by the Verrazano Bridge in Bay Ridge. At one point they were talking about a pretty serious storm surge.

Good news about your sister, Joe. I didn't realise she was so close to the water. Nice work taking care of the Dadmobile also. is your garage floodable?

heh. the news article mentioned "jersey shore" also.. but I only knew that for the reason Steve mentioned. Unless he and snooki are neighbors, anyway...

lol, Snooki is from NY.
Flooding won't be an issue for me, I am at over 400' of elevation, and about 25 miles as the crow flies inland of lower NY bay and the ocean but trees coming down and power loss could be an issue. :frown:

I'm pretty high up in my neighborhood. The street 12 houses to the right of me would be the first to flood, and then about 12 houses to the left also now that I think about it... The water would have to be 25+ feet above normal for me to start seeing it where I am... it is possible to get trapped though... unless I'm willing to drive through the salt water (which I'm not) or dumb enough to drive through water which is indeterminately deep (did I ever tell you about driving CaddySax through water so deep, I could see the headlight beams under the water?)...

Anyway, should be fine... more worried about the trees sending branches everywhere...

well i'm working through it, lucky me, I hear we may not get off work until monday. We are going to the Rockaways to enforce the mandatory evacuation.

Good luck, Mike. That cannot be an easy task. check in when you can.

:) No, but I had a very similar experience in a 1987 Taurus once... just before the car died... :D

So do you plan to wait out the storm? right now, it looks like the worst of it might miss you. last night anyway, in all of the "doom and gloom" reports, I haven't heard of a storm surge over 11'. They sure do like their computer animation of NYC flooding though...

Edit - just as I hit "save," the radio says "And here is the second Water Music Suite by Handel.."
