J's new ride ?????

No heli's in Santa Cruz. :( They have to come over from San Jose or Salinas but they are needed more over there.

Wow...good video, thanks! It actually looks like it will be very functional for us (CHP). The only bad thing is how long until we get one. I give it 8-10 years. It took us 3 or 4 years to get the Charger and another 2 years to actually get them out into the field. We just got word from our Commissioner that they are probably going to run our cars to 200k miles instead of the 100k. Crazy talk!

Isn't 200K+ miles pretty standard for Police cars?

Hell, I've been in livery cars in NYC with well over 300K on them...
and those cars get beat pretty hard...

Nope...we usually "runout" ours at 100k. It starts to become more cost effective to get a new one vs. replacing parts.

I thought that was you driving J. With Fiat running the show you may not have to worry about how long you keep those Chargers.

200k is a LONG time for a cop car. Man i got 232k on the crown vic now and its feeling pretty old and it didn't get the lead foot treatment.

I would think that 200k on a cruiser that is mainly on the highway would'nt be as tough as the ones in the cities and towns with all the stop and go.
200k on a Crown Vic should be a breeze as long as it lives it's life on the highway. We dump ours at about 100k but 50% of our roads are dirt covered with holes and ruts. They get pretty banged up on a regular basis.

I think the main thing that should be considered is that most Officers just hammer them all the time....literally ALL the time. I was a mechanic before so I drive like a grandpa and treat it as if was my own. Shoot...some of the Officers have never driven over 100 before coming onto this job and now they do it atleast once a shift.

Ha! Yeah your right. I was a mechanic before getting on the job as well and drive the same cruiser every shift if I can and keep it clean, unlike the rest of my co-workers.

Its been a long time since I got a chance to do 100 in a cruiser. :D
