Paint issues

WOW :(

That's a terrible sight, that car is certainly gone :( But I am not sure what would be best... to revive the mark from old parts and get it painted or to transfer the powertrain elsewhere :(

Any chance of keeping the Blue Flame alive?

Jeez, why is everyone putting this car to death ?

JP, get that repaired. Normally I'd say get another shell (and I would have one for you here too), but the blue flame won't the same in another body ;)

So what if the insurance company writes it off, title doesn't mean much on a car this old, and this cheap. Get over it.

Sorry for your loss JP.
If this would be my car I would do everything I could to fix it. This car is not Just average Mark VIII that has some go fast parts installed. Loosing this car is like loosing a family member.

Wow, thanks for all the support(even YOU Bud!). :)

I had a day on the road so I had a lot of windshield time to think about things.

First off, the more I think of the wreck, the more glad I am no one was hurt! First responders started getting a backboard and neck braces out when they first talked to the occupants of the other vehicle. I was highly surprised since moments earlier the passenger affirmed they were ok. The one VFD guy I was talking to told me it was just standard procedure. Later I noticed them putting a neck brace on the driver and my heart started racing. But then a few moments later after paramedics talked to both of them, they were both out and walking and not wearing any apparatus.

I told the trooper I knew "J" but that didn't seem to phase him as he thought he was doing me a favor with the failure to yield citation. Maybe he was, but I gotta tell you the other guy was nearly equal in fault. No way he should of been besides me when the car broke loose unless he was flooring it through the intersection. The collision wasn't just me hitting him, it was a hard smack with both cars accelerating - I just know it. The area is ripe for that behavior as the 2 lanes merge to one just a 100 yards up from the intersection. After thinking about it, I am sure he seen me pulling out and he mashed it to pass me so he could be ahead of me at the merge point.

Ohhhh crap! :(

I'm sure some of you can imagine how I feel. The car has been with me for years and I have labored and toiled many hours in nearly every nook and cranny. The car was a spectacular example of a Mark VIII when we purchased it. It served the Mrs. well for over 2 years as a daily driver with virtually zero problems. And while she thinks I "ruined it", it has surely been transformed from its former self.

I have talked to the insurance company and they are going to try to get an adjuster to look at it in the evening one day this week when my son is home as both the Mrs. and I are out of town. If not, they will have to wait until next week.

Not that it really matters. I already know the outcome. It's just a matter of filling in the blanks.

15 minutes later the car would've been on the trailer ready for SSHS10.

In two weeks it would've been tucked in the garage for a long winters nap.

I was listening to the Rolling Stones while cruising down the interstate today.

Wild horses couldn't tear me away...

...from the Blue Flame.

I'm not sure how,

I'm not sure when

or where,

but the flame WILL burn on! ;)

I'm glad YOU are ok... :D :D :D

If I'm to be honest, I really don't care about the other people... :p

What was the other car anyway?

JP, Sorry to hear about your car. It is totally repairable though. 15 years ago I was restoring 60's Mustangs and repairing damage like that was not a big deal for a car that was worth keeping. Yours is worth keeping.

What kind of insurance coverage do you have? A semi cut me off 3 years ago and I teeter-tottered into a cement barrier damaging the same side as yours. Front and rear bumper covers were shot, front and rear fenders were shot, and the hood was damaged on the corner like yours. This day, you'd never know anything happened. My body shop had the car for a lengthy time getting parts from Florida and such. It was a bit of down time, but the repairs were done and the car is straight. You can have this too! And on that note, you have a Pm from me for a particular auto salvage yard in the middle of nowhere next to a cornfield. I hope they still have that green Gen1.

I'm glad no one was hurt. Now....

I agree totally with Jeremi - it is fixable, even if the frame is damaged.

My 1997 Thunderbird was damaged like that was but on the passenger side. It was repaired with no compromise on safety and looked like brand new.

How?

LOS MEXICANOS!!!!! That's how.

Is there a Mexicantown section where you live? Find a bump shop that they run and show them the car as it is now. They will fix it for you. Trust me. Take them any replacement parts you want to if you want to do that but they can straighten all that out. Believe me.

FIX IT! The flame will burn again!! Give it the chance!

The adjuster has ruled it a total loss. :(

I expected as much. Value was put at $2875. If they kept the car, the payout would be $2375 considering my $500 deductible.

They will be mailing me a form for processing a salvage title with the DMV. After receipt of the salvage title application, they will issue a check for $2015.

The adjuster doesn't know about the Mexicans.

Take the $2015, see about keeping the car and getting it fixed with them.
