Wow, thanks for all the support(even YOU Bud!).
I had a day on the road so I had a lot of windshield time to think about things.
First off, the more I think of the wreck, the more glad I am no one was hurt! First responders started getting a backboard and neck braces out when they first talked to the occupants of the other vehicle. I was highly surprised since moments earlier the passenger affirmed they were ok. The one VFD guy I was talking to told me it was just standard procedure. Later I noticed them putting a neck brace on the driver and my heart started racing. But then a few moments later after paramedics talked to both of them, they were both out and walking and not wearing any apparatus.
I told the trooper I knew "J" but that didn't seem to phase him as he thought he was doing me a favor with the failure to yield citation. Maybe he was, but I gotta tell you the other guy was nearly equal in fault. No way he should of been besides me when the car broke loose unless he was flooring it through the intersection. The collision wasn't just me hitting him, it was a hard smack with both cars accelerating - I just know it. The area is ripe for that behavior as the 2 lanes merge to one just a 100 yards up from the intersection. After thinking about it, I am sure he seen me pulling out and he mashed it to pass me so he could be ahead of me at the merge point.
Ohhhh crap!
I'm sure some of you can imagine how I feel. The car has been with me for years and I have labored and toiled many hours in nearly every nook and cranny. The car was a spectacular example of a Mark VIII when we purchased it. It served the Mrs. well for over 2 years as a daily driver with virtually zero problems. And while she thinks I "ruined it", it has surely been transformed from its former self.
I have talked to the insurance company and they are going to try to get an adjuster to look at it in the evening one day this week when my son is home as both the Mrs. and I are out of town. If not, they will have to wait until next week.
Not that it really matters. I already know the outcome. It's just a matter of filling in the blanks.
15 minutes later the car would've been on the trailer ready for SSHS10.
In two weeks it would've been tucked in the garage for a long winters nap.
I was listening to the Rolling Stones while cruising down the interstate today.
Wild horses couldn't tear me away...
...from the Blue Flame.
I'm not sure how,
I'm not sure when
or where,
but the flame WILL burn on!
